The Sheldon B. Lubar College of Business at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee seeks applications for an Academic Advisor and Transfer Coordinator in Undergraduate Student Services.

Job Summary
Academic Advisors in the Lubar College of Business engage prospective and currently enrolled undergraduate Business students in decision making on academic matters such as major/minor/certificate choices, course selection and degree requirements. They educate students about and encourage participation in co-curricular experiences such as internships, undergraduate research, and leadership development opportunities. Advisors maintain appropriate confidentiality, update student advising records, and contribute to the planning and delivery of academic advising related events and programs, such as new student orientation and other student success initiatives. Advisors work to ensure students receive accurate, timely, and holistic advising services to support academic success, and refer students to appropriate university resources. In addition, the Academic Advisor and Transfer Coordinator will have a focus in prospective transfer student recruitment through development and implementation of outreach campaigns, recruitment events, advising sessions, and collaborations with partner institutions. The advising team strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment.

Job Duties: Advise current and prospective Business undergraduate students on issues related to admission, registration (course selection), and graduation (program requirements). Advise all undergraduate Lubar major curriculums, certificate programs, Business minors, accelerated master's programs, and second-degree students. Assist students in developing strategies to address academic difficulty and refer them to Lubar and campus resources, as needed. Plan and implement school/campus initiatives to increase student retention and graduation rates in the UWM Lubar College of Business.

Collaborate with the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator to develop and implement strategies to recruit prospective transfer students through outreach campaigns, recruitment events, classroom visits, and on-site advising at partner institutions. Liaise with area high schools, transfer institutions, and UWM's Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Complete transfer credit evaluations for prospective transfer students and lead the Lubar Transfer and Adult Student Orientation (TASO).

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assignments & project work as required. The advisor will also provide back-up for other advising staff and the Undergraduate Recruitment Coordinator, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • One or more years of professional work or internship/practicum experience in a higher education setting working directly with students

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Two or more years of experience advising students in a college/university setting, student recruitment experience
  • Experience working with Client Relation Management (CRM) tracking systems or other student communication or tracking systems
  • Excellent written communication skills and experience presenting topics to small/large audiences
  • Experience building relationships with diverse populations
