Tenure-Track Faculty in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science
The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in mechanical engineering. The successful applicant must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, have a record of significant contributions in research, and be prepared to teach core mechanical engineering courses as well as develop specialized elective courses. Tenure-track faculty are expected to establish and maintain an externally-funded research program, publish in peer-reviewed journals, mentor graduate students, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in department and University service. We seek candidates whose research, teaching, service, or other experience has prepared them to contribute to our core values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The current search is focused primarily at the Assistant Professor level, but appointment at more senior levels will be considered.
Imaging science, soft matter and biomaterials, energy and the environment, neurotechnology, and artificial intelligence are key areas of interest within the McKelvey School of Engineering. The Department of Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science seeks candidates with research interests in these areas and/or complementary to the department’s current research foci. The School is experiencing tremendous growth with the opening of two new buildings and a projected 20% increase in faculty numbers over the next five years. The McKelvey School of Engineering provides a wide range of networking, mentoring, and development opportunities for all faculty.
