Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health

We are pleased to invite qualified applicants to forward their credentials for consideration as leadership candidates for the position of Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health.  This USM position has a direct reporting relationship to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs.  The primary Dean office is located on the Portland campus and the College is located on two unique and diverse campuses – Portland and Gorham, and delivers courses on a third campus – Lewiston Auburn.

Start date July 1, 2018 (successful candidate can negotiate earlier start date if desired).

The Position:

The College of Science, Technology, and Health is home to the School of Engineering and Physical Sciences; School of Environmental, Health, and Life Sciences; and the School of Nursing. The College offers undergraduate, Master’s, and doctoral degrees to more than 2,500 students in fifteen departments with research, scholarship, instruction, and advising taking place on each of three university campuses and through on-line and technologically-enhanced education.

The Dean of the College of Science, Technology, and Health is the chief administrative and academic officer of the College and is expected to provide visionary leadership in all areas of the College’s operation. The Dean is charged with continually developing the College by implementing the instructional programs and executing the educational objectives of the College, working directly with department chairs, faculty, staff, students and senior administrators to continuously advance the  quality of undergraduate and graduate instruction, research and community engagement, including corporate and civic partners.

The Dean is a University leader and works collaboratively with other colleges/schools and programs both within and outside of the University to provide an outstanding education for USM students. The Dean works to strengthen and extend university relationships with external communities and has significant responsibilities in community relations and partnership development, outreach, and fundraising.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctoral or terminal degree in one or more disciplines of the College;
  • Eligible for tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor; and
  • Administrative experience in planning, program development, and budget management at the level of department chair, dean, or equivalent.

Anticipated salary:  $130,000 - $150,000 (annualized)
