Vice Provost for International Affairs
The University of Tennessee in Knoxville, in alignment with our vision of an expanded international presence, invites nominations and applications for the newly upgraded position of Vice Provost for International Affairs. Reporting to the Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor, the Vice Provost is the chief international officer of the university and works closely with the university community to lead the development of the university’s strategic international agenda. The Vice Provost also represents the university to external constituents, both nationally and internationally. The Vice Provost for International Affairs oversees the Center for International Education, including the offices of International Partnerships and Exchanges, Programs Abroad, International Support Services, International House, English Language Institute, and the Confucius Institute.
Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who have an earned terminal degree and credentials sufficient to earn tenure in one of the departments of the university. Candidates from non-academic environments with significant international and leadership experience are encouraged to apply. The University of Tennessee is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the university.
In addition, preference will be given to candidates possessing the following qualifications:
- The visionary leadership skills necessary to develop a new comprehensive international strategy for the university;
- The management and interpersonal skills necessary to articulate and build consensus for implementing the strategy;
- An outstanding record of success in prior leadership positions, including a demonstrated ability to manage a complex budget and determine strategic spending priorities;
- The skills necessary to succeed in fund-raising and development activities;
- A record of sustained international engagement and a demonstrated ability to work with a multicultural and international clientele;
- A demonstrated commitment to enhancing opportunities and addressing barriers for faculty and student engagement in international education; and
- A demonstrated commitment to international research, education abroad, serviceālearning, and other transformational learning experiences.
