Circulation Librarian

As a full-time circulation librarian, you will contribute to collaborative access services delivery and will partner across library departments and throughout the university to ensure the library provides the highest degree of services, resources, and support to the SCAD community. You will manage daily inter- and intra-library loan operations, contribute to development of workflow and procedures for inter-library loan for SCAD Libraries, based on good practice and established standards, and ensure circulation expectations of lending libraries are conveyed to the SCAD requesters and carried out accordingly as specified by the lender. You will remain current on trends and new technologies in inter-library loan, and educate and inform the SCAD community of inter-library loan services and resources with a special emphasis on the promotion and facilitation of new ILLiad accounts.

You will also work with physical resources to solve problems that may arise related to inter-library loan shipping and receiving of materials and work with other library staff to find alternative solutions to aid students and faculty whose material requests cannot be processed, among other duties.

The successful candidate has exceptional written and verbal communication skills and is experienced with both the planning and implementation of events within a library environment. Organized and an agile multi-tasker, the candidate can easily prioritize and delegate tasks, respond to urge deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Familiarity with integrated library systems is vital, and the candidate should demonstrate an enthusiasm for creating user-friendly, student-centered library experiences. The proven ability to improve both customer service and staff efficiency in a circulation department is also essential.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • M.L.S. degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office software (Word and Excel)
  • Fluent in inter- and intra-library loan procedures and governance models
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a library circulations department, managing an ILS system, coordinating inter- and intra-library loan activities, and using Innovative Interfaces Sierra and/or Millennium software


Work Hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
