Special Information

  • This is a 12-month, non-tenured, non-tenure eligible faculty position. Annual continuation of appointment will depend on program success, the ability to provide students with the academic content and tools to succeed, and continued funding.
  • Remote duty station; workspace not provided
  • Position requires extensive use of technology; applicant must be comfortable working and communicating in an online environment
  • Position reports to PL Chair, or designee, and collaborates with Faculty Program Coordinator in academic discipline
  • This position requires the ability to meet, with or without reasonable accommodation, the Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requirements, as occasional travel to Flagstaff may be required.
  • This position requires ability to meet regularly via web-based conferencing and/or telephone, and periodically in-person at the NAU North Valley campus

Job Description

Instruction and Assessment - 80%
  • Assess student work (grade assignments, tests, projects, discussions, and essays, as needed), tutor and coach online students.
  • Provide high-touch assessment feedback
  • Advocate for resolution of student issues
  • Coordinate with Disability Resources about students requiring accommodation
  • Maintain and communicate regular hours of availability for synchronous student interaction
  • Develop a strong understanding of available problem-solving resources by collaborating with NAU student and academic services staff
  • Maintain electronic and academic student files and records, such as grading feedback, email, and Salesforce; document all pertinent student interactions and information
  • Customize student communications based on individual student goals as needed and as practical
  • Communicate clear student expectations
  • Establish a genuine partnership with students; communicate with students regularly

Curriculum Development - 15%
  • Support curricular assignments determined by Faculty Program Coordinator
  • Collaborates with PL colleagues to:
  • Review disciplinary curriculum, design, and evaluation
  • Identify learning outcomes and ensure that they are aligned with assessments
  • Identify and create learning resources to support course materials and student learning
  • Develop rubrics for evaluations and assessment
  • Monitor instructional materials to ensure sound academic practices
  • Ensure that materials are accessible (Section508ADA) and usable for all learners
  • Maintain functioning links and ensure currency of course materials

Service to the Profession, the University, and to the Community (as it relates to the mission and guidelines of the University and profession) - 5%
  • Serves on faculty search committees
  • Serves on departmental and college committees


Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Master's degree in related discipline
  • Three years' experience in academic coaching, tutoring, teaching, or training
  • Experience in business operations including marketing, management, HR, finance, leadership, or other aspects of business


Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in Business related field
  • Experience working as part of a remote faculty team
  • Two or more years of experience in online or competency-based programs
  • Two or more years of experience in designing learning experiences and developing curriculum and assessments
  • Experiences working with two or more learning management systems
  • Demonstrate advocacy for student success and service
  • Demonstrates leadership and the ability to communicate and to work effectively within a culturally diverse environment
  • Demonstrates consistent accountability for a variety of assigned tasks and responsibilities
  • Demonstrate core values of excellence in education, student success, educational access, diversity, integrity, and civility

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report . The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. More information on benefits at NAU is available at the NAU HR benefits page . Faculty are hired on a contract basis, renewable according to terms of the Conditions of Faculty Service . Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of employment. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following 90 days of employment.
