Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (Part-Time; Onsite)

The Claremont Colleges Services seeks a knowledgeable and talented health professional for the position of Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist for the Student Health Services department that supports the students of the seven member institutions of The Claremont Colleges.

The Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist uses nutritional expertise to provide consultation, education, outreach, and programming for students of the seven member institutions of The Claremont Colleges through the Health Education Outreach department. Specific duties include:

Clinical (80%)

  1. Conduct individualized nutritional assessments and diet consultations for students. Assess, plan, and counsel students on implementing healthy eating plans.
  2. Collaborate and consult with providers for pre-existing health conditions and complex health problems.
  3. Develop and provide written meal plans, informational sheets, and other supporting materials.
  4. As appropriate, collaborate with other health disciplines in assessing and developing plans, including physicians, mental health professionals, campus health & wellness partners, and athletic trainers/coaches.

Education and Outreach (10%)

  1. Develop, implement, evaluate, and manage nutrition education programs and materials for students.
  2. Conduct workshops and presentations virtually and in person as appropriate.
  3. Participate in campus outreach programs as requested.
  4. Collaborate with medical staff, psychological services staff, residential life staff, athletic coaching staff/trainers, food service management, and student groups on education and outreach initiatives and events.
  5. Develop a library of resource materials in accessible formats on various nutritional topics relevant for The Claremont Colleges student population.
  6. Provide nutritional consultation services to Student Health Services staff, Monsour Counseling and Psychological Services staff, residential life staff, athletic coaches/trainers, food service management, and other TCC staff as appropriate.

Administrative (10%)

  1. Review and update nutrition educational materials.
  2. Participate in Quality Assurance/Improvement programs.
  3. Participate in any required professional development opportunities and in-service training.
  4. Participate in the Eating Disorder Task Force meetings.

Work Schedule: The regular hours for this part-time position are 20 to 30 hours per week scheduled between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit.

Pay: The monthly salary for this position is commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position.

You enjoy working with college-aged patients in a collaborative and dynamic environment. In addition, you have:

  1. Effective interviewing skills to elicit information related to needs identified by patient.
  2. The ability to:
    1. identify normal/abnormal findings by consultation, interrelating physical and psychosocial aspects,
    2. review patient’s medical record for documentation of pertinent information,
    3. clearly and accurately record and document patient’s problems and treatment plans,
    4. assess and determine when consultation and/or referral are appropriate,
    5. use electronic health records,
    6. apply dietetic knowledge and techniques,
    7. gain the interest, respect, and cooperation of patients,
    8. work cooperatively with staff, students, and others,
    9. analyze urgent and emergent situations accurately and to take prompt action,
    10. Clearly identify and hold self out as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist, and
    11. maintain a neat and professional image at all times.
  3. Knowledge in and the ability to comply with protected health information requirements and maintain confidentiality.
  4. Strong knowledge of medical terminology in English.
  5. Strong oral and written communication skills in English, including presentations skills.
  6. Strong organizational skills with the ability to follow items through to a timely resolution.
  7. Awareness of and sensitivity to racial, cultural, religious, gender and sexual orientation diversity.
  8. Thorough knowledge of professional clinical principles, methods, and procedures.

Education: You have a bachelor's degree in nutrition or a related field, plus are currently a Registered Dietitian with the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Experience:  You have two (2) years of relevant experience, preferably working with young adult/college-aged individuals. In addition, you have proven experience in nutrition education and health promotion activities. If you have a master’s degree in nutrition or a related field, you can substitute it for one year of the required experience.

Preferences: If you have the following, it's a plus!

  • Master’s degree in Nutrition or a related field
  • Certification as an Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD)
  • Certification in Sports Dietetics
  • Experience working with young adult/college-aged individuals, preferably in an educational setting
