ABOUT UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

Undergraduate Admissions supports outreach and recruitment strategy, admission policy and processes, and yield initiatives for domestic and international first-year, transfer, adult and non-degree students enrolling on the Athens campus and in OHIO Online programs. The Undergraduate Admissions team is comprised of more than 50 full-time staff members, including a talented recruitment team based in Athens, as well as a growing team of strategically positioned staff members in key markets throughout the U.S. and around the world. Undergraduate Admissions supports colleges, schools, and departments in the pursuit of academically specific recruitment and admission goals.

 

LEADERSHIP PROFILE & POSITION SUMMARY

Position Summary: Based on the Athens campus, the admissions advisor represents the University both on- and off-campus to a wide variety of constituents, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary school personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Plans and implements recruitment activities for an assigned territory or population, including programs and travel activities around Ohio and nationally. Coordinates and contributes to the success of initiatives designed to identify, attract, admit, and enroll students in Ohio University’s undergraduate programs. Monitors and analyzes historical and current recruitment and admissions data and trends and uses this information in decision-making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Development and Execution of Recruitment Plans in Assigned Recruitment Territory: The primary objective of the admissions advisor is to manage activities occurring within the territory or affecting constituents within it. Advisors conduct recruitment travel on a frequent basis, including some overnight and weekends, within assigned territory in an independent and professional manner for extended periods of time between early September to mid-November and mid-January to mid-April. This position initiates, develops, and maintains relationships with constituents within the territory, including prospective students and their families, secondary and postsecondary personnel, community-based organizations, and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. Such recruitment work includes the planning and execution of on- and off-campus events to support recruitment, admission, and yield, not only for the assigned territory but also for broader audiences.

 

Counseling and Advising on Admissions and Enrollment Processes: Following a thorough onboarding process, advisors maintain thorough knowledge of trends in the field of admissions and advise constituents on the breadth and depth of opportunities available at OHIO in order to generate enrollment pipelines from the territory. This advising occurs through in-person and virtual, group information sessions, individual appointments, phone calls, e-mails, online chats, and interactions within the University’s constituent relationship management system. Advisors also coordinate and contribute to the success of other initiatives designed to identify, attract, admit, and enroll students in Ohio University’s undergraduate programs based on the advisors’ areas of expertise and interest or as needed by the office.

 

Evaluation of Admissions Materials: Advisors conduct thorough, holistic, selective review of applicants’ candidacy, determine necessary documentation to support an admission decision, and recommend appropriate alternative pathways when admission cannot be offered. All advisors are key members on the Committee Review Panel, representing and deliberating concerns about applicants’ candidacy.

 

Collaboration with University Partners: OHIO is committed to collaborative success throughout the University. Therefore, advisors serve as liaisons to an assigned academic and/or administrative unit to facilitate integrated recruitment and admission functions and resolve issues of competing priorities. To ensure mutual success, advisors Initiate, develop, and maintain relationships with constituents within the unit to ensure that Undergraduate Admissions possesses an awareness of needs and provides optimal service in fulfilling those needs. To support these relationships, advisors monitor progress toward recruitment, admission, or yield targets for assigned academic programs or populations, and propose action or adjustments as needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any field conferred by start date and at least one year of experience, which may be attributed to a combination of related paid employment, related student employment, relevant internships, and, in some cases, relevant experiential learning with appropriate documentation. Candidates must have the ability to travel independently up to twelve weeks annually (intermittent; travel requirements vary by position).

 

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with a master’s degree are strongly preferred, but not required. OHIO is committed to employee success and enhancing access to education and all Advisors are eligible for our education benefit which provides tuition coverage to employees and eligible dependents for an array of undergraduate and graduate programs.

 

Other preferred, but not required, qualifications include being multi-lingual; previous experience in college admissions, academic advising in higher education, college student personnel, or counseling or teaching in secondary schools; demonstrated interpersonal communication and public speaking skills.

Pay Rate

Based on extensive benchmarking data, the advisor position is mapped to Pay Grade CA&P 14 at OHIO, with a target hiring range of $36,279-$40,788. The exact base salary for the selected candidate will be negotiable, commensurate with education and experience, and competitive in the field within the context of similarly situated positions at public universities nationally.
