Assistant Professor in American Ethnic Literature

The English department at Hope College invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in American Ethnic literature beginning on July 1, 2023. The successful candidate will preferably have expertise in African American literature, but those with expertise in Asian or Latinx literature are welcome to apply.

 

Description

Successful candidates will have a strong grounding in American Ethnic literature, preferably African American literature. Beginning Fall 2023, the teaching load will be three 3-credit courses per semester. This could include upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialization, a range of undergraduate introductory literature, and first-year writing. Department members also teach other courses in our General Education Program. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and teaching interests supplement and expand our departmental program, especially with secondary interests in professional writing. Additional duties will include academic advising and supporting students in a thriving program, maintaining an active publication record, helping to recruit potential incoming students, and participating in faculty governance within and outside the department.

Qualifications:

PhD in English with an area of specialization in American Ethnic literature, preferably African American literature.
