Vice Provost of Student Success, Inclusive Excellence and Curricular Innovation

The University of San Francisco (USF), a diverse, urban, Jesuit Catholic university with a global mission, invites nominations and applications for the role of Vice Provost of Student Success, Inclusive Excellence and Curricular Innovation (VPSS).

Since 1855, the University of San Francisco has dedicated itself to offering a daring and dynamic liberal arts education in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. USF is committed to educating hearts and minds to cultivate the full, integral development of each person and all persons; pursuing learning as a lifelong humanizing and liberating social activity; and advancing excellence as the standard for teaching, scholarship, creative expression and service. Inspired by a faith that does justice, USF strives to humbly and responsibly engage with, and contribute to, the cultural, intellectual, economic and spiritual gifts and talents of the San Francisco Bay Area and the global communities to which they belong. In the 2022 U.S. News and World Report , USF was ranked 103rd among national universities, first among national universities for the racial/ethnic diversity of its student body and fourth in international student enrollment. The University employs 444 full-time faculty members and 655 part-time faculty members and serves more than 5,969 undergraduate and 4,065 graduate students in arts and sciences, education, law, management, and nursing and health professions.

Reporting directly to Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs (Provost/VPAA) Julia Chinyere Oparah , the VPSS will oversee and coordinate processes for assessment of educational effectiveness, academic advising, institutional research, curricular innovation and accreditation with a deep focus on inclusive excellence to ensure equitable student retention and success. With direct responsibility for the integrity, value and relevance of the USF degree, the new vice provost will outline strategic priorities based on timely and accurate information about students' holistic learning experience. The VPSS will support the Provost and academic affairs leadership team in ensuring that decisions related to academic program development and innovation are rooted in advancing the University's Jesuit mission and values as a student-centered, social-justice oriented liberal arts institution. In doing so, the VPSS will engage the community in conversations around strategic priorities, as outlined in the University's new strategic plan. The VPSS will bring an entrepreneurial and creative approach and will center antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion in their work, particularly in relation to fostering equitable outcomes for student success. Vital components of this work will include: partnering with Student Life to lead efforts to enhance student outcomes impacted by the pandemic; developing innovative, student-centered initiatives that drive high academic achievement, retention and timely graduation of a diverse student body; development of an undergraduate pipeline to graduate education; engaging the academic community in re-visioning the core curriculum; integrating USF's commitments to antiracism, diversity, equity and inclusion, global and community engagement and environmental sustainability throughout our academic programs; supporting the expansion of transfer pathways into USF; contributing to the institution's goal of becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution, among other important priorities.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, creative and transparent leader with demonstrated success and leadership in coordinating design of curricular initiatives related to academic success, managing academic program innovation and development, program review, assessment and accreditation, preferably with a regional accreditor. Competitive candidates will have a track record of demonstrated excellence in student success, institutional research and curricular innovation. The VPSS will also have a track record in leading data-informed initiatives to bolster student success and strong post-graduation outcomes. The VPSS will possess a deep understanding of and value for the academic mission of the University and bring experience in long-term planning for the future of higher education. The successful candidate will serve as a highly visible and trusted partner and creative problem solver, with the ability to work seamlessly across the institution, creating connections and deepening relationships with all key stakeholders. The VPSS will be guided in their work by the University's mission and Jesuit values. They must lead with creativity, entrepreneurism, integrity, transparency, engagement, sound judgment, cultural humility, and an equity lens, engendering a collaborative approach to assessment and program development and innovation.
