The Prospect Manager/Researcher is responsible for identifying, researching, and analyzing prospects for major gift and leadership annual giving cultivation and solicitation. Research and analysis serve as the foundation of the Advancement Services operation within the Office of Development at Southern Oregon University and directly contributes to the institution's philanthropic success. The Prospect Manager/Researcher works directly with frontline fundraisers, Annual Giving Program officers, and Alumni Relations staff to identify and qualify major donor prospects who have the propensity and capacity to support the university's initiatives and campaigns. Specifically, the Prospect Manager/Researcher works to research individuals, corporations, and foundations and compile data into meaningful categories; evaluate data for accuracy and relevance, and prepare reports including detailed prospect profiles; and assign prospect ratings based on known indicators of wealth and philanthropic giving capacity. Reports to reports to the Director of Advancement Services, Office of Development.

This position is eligible for remote work.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with business, informational science,
or library sciences background.
 Demonstrated experience in prospect research, development, library research or information-
related field. Knowledge of the range of resources available to prospect researchers and the
ability to apply those resources in an organized and purposeful manner.
 Demonstrated analytical skills to initiate and perform complex analyses and organize
information to identify philanthropic patterns, tendencies, and relationships among individuals,
corporations and foundations. Ability to analyze and interpret complex financial disclosure
documents for the purposes of wealth assessment.
 Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to
support organizational goals, including data mining, sophisticated constituent database queries,
etc.
 Strong project management and problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a
demanding environment.
 Experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
 Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information

Preferred Qualification:
 Experience working with Raiser's Edge.
 Experience working within the dynamics of a comprehensive fundraising campaign.
 Working knowledge of fundraising, donor relations and public relations concepts, principles,
procedures and techniques.
 Knowledge of ethics statements by APRA, Council for Advancement and Support of Education
(CASE), and other related associations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing information in a clear and understandable manner.
• Ability to organize, train, and motivate staff particularly in the gift entry and biographical maintenance functions of the fund raising system.
•Ability to supervise and ensure the accurate processing of gifts and pledges and ensure processing deadlines are met.
•Knowledge of gift processing and stewardship policies and procedures, including IRS regulations. Organization, prioritization, judgment, discretion and problem-solving skills.
•A comprehensive understanding of Advancement Services as a functional area, including gift processing, stewardship, donor relations, customer service, prospect management, information security, and data maintenance
•Ability to understand alumni and development database structures, database development, and database management
•Ability to work under pressure in a thorough, organized, calm, and detail-oriented manner.
•Understanding of the confidential nature of fund raising efforts and donor information.
• Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.
• Ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
• Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization.
• Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
