Dean of the Covey College of Allied Health Professions

The University of South Alabama invites applications from vibrant, experienced, and visionary leaders to be considered for Dean of the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions. The College is a dynamic, rapidly growing, and vital part of the University and encompasses a growing and dynamic set of disciplines. The College is dedicated to the provision of the highest quality education in the basic medical sciences, the applied sciences, and professional health programs as well as to the creation and dissemination of new knowledge through research in order to address the health care needs of the Gulf Coast region and the country. The College provides rigorous academic experiences for 1,400 students across all levels of academic preparation, including undergraduate, masters, clinical doctoral, and research doctoral levels. Additionally, students enrolled in the 7 clinical programs within the College are provided direct clinical experiences with full-time faculty of the College as well as through participation in clinical sites across the USA Health System that includes USA Health University Hospital, USA Health Children’s and Women’s Hospital, USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute, and USA Health Physicians group.

The Dean of the College reports directly to the Provost/Executive Vice President, and is responsible for establishing a vision for the college/school, for creating a strategic plan and for evaluating the college/school’s overall effectiveness in achieving the stated goals and objectives, as well as the development and facilitation of interdisciplinary programs across the University.

The successful candidate will have a strong academic record preferably meriting an appointment as a full professor as well as meaningful higher education administrative experience of at least five years. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience and a terminal degree in a discipline represented in the College and will have demonstrated evidence of effective leadership in academic program administration. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to innovative approaches, outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to fostering cultural diversity, and a strong focus on student support. The successful candidate will also have a record demonstrating significant support of the College priorities of interprofessional education; promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the educational mission and in administrative practices; and a history demonstrating the development and support of a strong research mission.
