Tenure Track Faculty Positions in Health Services Research

The Department of Health Policy and Management (HPM) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) has openings for up to three tenure track faculty positions in health services research. This is an exciting time to join HPM and the BSPH. A new chair, Dr. Keshia Pollack Porter, began in February 2022, and she has a bold vision regarding scholarship, education, practice, and policy impact. Under her leadership, the Department has reaffirmed its committed to advancing inclusion, diversity, anti-racism, and equity (IDARE) in scholarship, education, practice, and the department’s culture.

The Department is seeking to expand the scope of its expertise in health services research. Candidates should have a Ph.D. or comparable degree in health services research, management, decision sciences, economics, or a closely related field with research interests in the organization and delivery of health services.

One of the positions is for an assistant professor who will have a primary appointment in the Department and will also be affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University Knowledge to Action and the Business of Health (KABOH) cluster, which aims to address the pressing social need of achieving better health outcomes in light of ever-rising health spending. This interdisciplinary research cluster is one of 10 of the University’s Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship Clusters. The Hopkins Business of Health Initiative is closely aligned with the KABOH cluster. This position with the KABOH cluster seeks an exceptional scholar committed to contributing to the understanding of pathways and policies whereby business can be a more effective, socially responsible, partner in advancing health for all.

Recruitment for the other two positions will be at the assistant or associate professor levels, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Priority areas include, but are not limited to, multidisciplinary and collaborative research regarding how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health information technologies, and personal behaviors affect access to health care; the quality and cost of health care; health care utilization; health care management and leadership; quality metrics and measures; and the impact of federal, state, and local health policies on health and health care. Faculty hired through this search will also have an opportunity to affiliate with any of the Department’s 16+ Centers and Institutes, and Affiliated Programs, in support of their research and practice activities. Candidates with an interest in equity related to health services research are especially encouraged to apply.

Ideal candidates for these positions will have an established track record of externally- funded research or the strong potential to develop one. A commitment to graduate-level advising, mentoring, and teaching is required.
