Professor of Painting

SCAD Atlanta seeks an accomplished, full-time professor of painting to guide students as they push the boundaries of expression while mastering the classical methods of fine art instruction and practice.

Graduates of the SCAD painting program are creative and pragmatic entrepreneurs. As a professor, you will inspire students to create and maintain an active studio practice that will engage the future of art, culture, and creative technologies. You will also help advance students’ knowledge in strategic thinking, marketing concepts, collector engagement, and financial strategies and management while encouraging an agile and diverse production regiment.

The successful candidate should be charismatic with a solid background in representational painting. The candidate must also be able to effectively guide students in representational skills acquisition.

Located in the heart of midtown, SCAD Atlanta is nestled within a cultural landscape that includes theaters, museums, fine art galleries, bustling shops, and countless green spaces, including Piedmont Park and Atlanta’s famed BeltLine. Through rotating exhibitions at SCAD museums and galleries and the university’s extensive permanent collection, you and your students have exclusive access to objects of study at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta, and the university’s numerous galleries. Enriching signature events invite visiting artists from across the globe to engage in creative discourse. Recent guest artists have included Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alfredo Jaar, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Dustin Yellin, and Omar Victor Diop to name a few.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Master of Fine Arts or other terminal degree in painting or a relevant discipline
- Minimum of three years of university-level teaching experience
- Strong professional background in painting, gallery representation, and related work
- Knowledge of traditional painting techniques and contemporary art theory and practices

Preferred Qualifications: Adobe Creative Suite

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach.
