Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

An Invitation to Apply for the Position of:

Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students

Schenectady, New York

Union College, a nationally recognized, distinguished liberal arts college, seeks an experienced and innovative leader to become its next Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students (VPSA). Reporting to the President and serving on the President’s senior leadership team, the VPSA will be an advocate for students, a visible campus leader, and a builder of community. The VPSA will join Union College at a transformative time. With major updates to the residential curriculum set to take place and a deliberate effort to elevate the student-athlete experience, the next VPSA will be poised to work collaboratively across the college to shape the student experience at Union. This is a tremendous opportunity for a dynamic professional with a deep understanding of, and commitment to, student development in a residential liberal arts setting.

Since the start of President David Harris’s tenure in 2018, Union has strengthened and innovated as a liberal arts college to complement its academic excellence across the humanities, social sciences, and engineering. Union’s strategic plan The Power of Union launched in 2020 with the vision to develop every student to lead with wisdom, empathy, and courage, in ways large and small, now and across multiple tomorrows. A key objective of the plan is to provide an intentional, invigorating, and supportive student experience outside the classroom that is integrated with academic learning, the development of critical competencies, and preparation for healthy, fulfilling, and joyful lives of purpose.

The VPSA will play a critical role in the continued execution of the plan and will work closely with President Harris and other senior officers in leading this institutional shift aimed at reaffirming and reinventing the residential experience. The VPSA will also: provide strategic leadership to the division; lead a talented team into a collaborative organization; serve as a highly visible advocate for students; and support an increasingly diverse student body with changing needs. Prior experience in student affairs is necessary.
