Position Overview:
The Penn Fund includes a team of Class Giving Directors who work in partnership with volunteers and development colleagues to achieve class fundraising goals with greatest emphasis on those under their management celebrating quinquennial reunions. Reporting to the Director of Class Giving and Reunion Programs, the Senior/Class Giving Director holds a high-performing position that inspires undergraduate alumni to support their alma mater through philanthropy and volunteerism. It is expected that they are a true collegial partner within the complex framework of Development and Alumni Relations at the University of Pennsylvania. They will also prospect manage an individual portfolio as well as engage virtually and/or travel to make personal visits for the purposes of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship as well as volunteer recruitment and training.

This role is responsible for the solicitation of top Penn Fund prospects in at least two milestone reunion classes as well as partnership with additional classes to support the growth of dollars and donors. In addition, the individual in this role creates and manages highly motivated gift committees to solicit classmates at the leadership level and to inspire loyal giving. Collaboration with fellow prospect managers to solicit assigned undergraduate alumni for unrestricted and scholarship gifts also is critical to the role's success in addition to the act of working with volunteers to inspire a culture of philanthropy. The role will also require management of complex and confidential data followed by analysis to identify top prospects and volunteers utilizing a keen attention to detail. The individual in this role will take on additional responsibilities dependent on the needs of the Class Giving and Reunion Programs Team as they pertain to overall Penn Fund Strategy, as well.

Targeted Pay Range: $65,000-$89,000

This Targeted Pay Range is only applicable to this job posting. All salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and job profile.

Specific Responsibilities:

Frontline Fundraising-
  • Regularly connect with prospective donors and volunteers-in and out of individual portfolio-through visits (virtual and in-person), phone, and email
  • Personally solicit at least 250 gifts at the Benjamin Franklin Society leadership level ($2,500+) in any given fiscal year
  • Meet with prospective donors and volunteers to increase philanthropic support-with special emphasis on solicitation of leadership prospects at the $25,000+ level and endowed scholarship solicitations of at least $125,000
  • Include solicitation of non-reunion undergraduate alumni leadership donors in addition to those celebrating milestone reunions and those who may contribute below the leadership level across all assigned classes
  • Document all prospect actions within internal database to ensure information sharing across the University

Volunteer Management-
  • Recruit, train, and manage the activity of reunion class giving committees and all volunteers within assigned class portfolio
  • Effectively motivate volunteers in support of their solicitation efforts
  • Communicate regularly with individual volunteers and committees to share progress toward goals, strategies for solicitation, and information regarding fundraising priorities
  • Create and analyze data and reports while submitting accurate and timely database updates to reflect all volunteer and donor activity

Other Potential Duties as Assigned-
  • Staff additional reunion and/or non-reunion classes, especially when fellow team member roles are vacant
  • Serve as liaison to partner teams across the division
  • Assist with and/or lead planning and execution of the annual Penn Reunion Volunteer Conference (PRVC)
  • Supervise an Assistant Class Giving Director(s)

The ideal candidate will successfully navigate Penn's relationship hierarchy and should demonstrate an ability to evaluate class giving patterns, identify prospective donors, and assess progress toward goals. They would hopefully be comfortable and adept with utilizing data analysis tools and bring a desire to learn and grow to the role.

Internal responsibilities include frequent collaboration with The Penn Fund's Marketing and Donor Participation and Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy teams, the Office of Alumni Relations, the Central Major Gifts team, and School and Center-based fundraising staff.

Participation is expected at events such as the Penn Reunion Volunteer Conference (PRVC), Alumni Weekend, Homecoming, volunteer appreciation events, regional pre-reunion events, and other events that provide opportunities to engage with undergraduate alumni.

  • BA/BS degree and 3-5 (Annual Giving Officer B job profile) or 5-7 (Annual Giving Officer C job profile) years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Desired skills include, but are not limited to, and may be described in other ways: excellent interpersonal, communication, strong attention to detail, ability to organize and manage multiple projects, and wish to work both individually and collaboratively while contributing to total team culture and effort.
