Job Description Summary
The Central Pool is a set of 192 classrooms located in 27 buildings across the campus that serves seven Schools (Annenberg, Arts & Sciences, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Social Policy & Practice, and Design).

The Associate Director of Classroom Planning and Design leads central classroom planning and design. The Associate Director collaborates with the Central Pool schools and the Office of the University Registrar to anticipate program and student enrollment growth as they relate to the need for classroom space. In collaboration with the Office of the University Registrar, the position assesses and tracks the usage of space across campus to identify partnership opportunities for scheduling Central Pool school courses and opportunities to add to the Central Pool classroom stock. The Associate Director collaborates with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the Schools to develop design requirements for classrooms, including best practices for inclusive classroom design, based on the different instructional techniques and needs at Penn. The Associate Director participates in design planning meetings for renovation and construction projects that impact the Central Pool and also is a member of the Classroom Facilities Review Implementation Committee. Finally, in collaboration with the Office of the University Registrar, the Associate Director identifies and communicates guiding principles for scheduling academic events (e.g., faculty meetings, colloquia, dissertations defenses) in the Central Pool.

Job Description

Duties:

The Associate Director of Classroom Planning and Design leads central classroom planning and design. The Associate Director collaborates with the Central Pool schools and the Office of the University Registrar to anticipate program and student enrollment growth as they relate to the need for classroom space. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Project, analyze, and identify ways to meet the demand on the Central Pool based on space usage, academic program enrollment growth and pedagogical techniques.
  • Develop guidelines for classroom design and scheduling.
  • Participate in classroom renovation design and facilities review committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

Masters degree and 5-7 years of experience in strategic planning and classroom design. Experience teaching at the college level is preferred.

Job knowledge and skills will require: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Long term planning skills and creative problem solving. Must be organized, professional, and able to manage multiple tasks. Ability to interact with a diverse group of campus partners. Familiarity with inclusive teaching techniques.
