Job Profile Title
Information Technology Support Specialist A

Job Description Summary
This position will provide analytical and troubleshooting skills for implementing and supporting technology applications for Penn Vet hospital user communities. Position will be situated at the PHL campus, but the incumbent will be responsible for hospital level support irrespective of campus, which will require travel to both Penn Vet campuses in Philadelphia and Kennett Square, PA.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:
  • Assist in assessment, coordination, documentation, release note review, testing and implementation of custom applications, upgrades to current systems, and project requests.
  • Address support requests and coordinate them within Penn Vet IT help desk application.
  • With guidance from senior IT analysts, act as a liaison between various hospital departments and advocate for users' needs, resolve highly complex, multi-function application errors and system issues.
  • Provide and communicate clear documentation for support, status, and issues resolutions.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation to support both technical and end-user staff.
  • Provide training assistance for applications users and other staff.
  • Work closely with vendors' technical teams to resolve certain issues that cannot be resolved in-house.
  • Provide on-call after-hours support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Information Technology Support Specialist A

Bachelor's Degree with 0-1 year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's Degree in Information Sciences is preferred.

Information Technology Support Specialist B

Bachelor's Degree with 1-2 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Bachelor's Degree in Information Sciences and 1-3 years of experience is preferred.

Additional qualifications IT Support Specialist A/B
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships and to interact positively and productively with teams across departmental lines, including administrative and executive staff is required.
  • Experience with supporting clinician use of an EMR system, with expertise in hospital or ambulatory clinical computer applications is desired, but not required.
  • Demonstrates strong initiative, establishes personal goals, and takes responsibility for meeting them within defined time-lines is required.
  • Ability to function in a dynamic environment subject to spontaneous changes in schedules and priorities is required.
  • Ability to analyze various computer programs to achieve desired output.
  • Experience with leading multiple initiatives concurrently is preferred.
  • Strong and effective inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse. group of clients and staff.
  • Must also be a highly motivated self-starter capable of working both independently and as a member of a team.
