The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of community engagement, public health policy and practice, methodological expertise in community-based participatory research design, delivery transformation to address social determinants of health, health equity research, and/or community-based programming, with the ability to establish oneself as a leader in their area of specialization. Clear evidence of effective collaboration with community partners is a critical asset. Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D or equivalent degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include contribution to the vision and implementation of our educational programs for residents, medical students, and learners from a wide array of health disciplines in the spirit of promoting interprofessional education and practice with a particular focus on education in community and public health practice. Additional teaching roles may include community-based capacity building activities to strengthen academic-community partnerships.

Clinical responsibilities may include providing strategic oversight and direction for the Department's growing Division of Community Health, and helping to lead Penn's community health program (including the Philadelphia hospitals' Community Health Implementation Plan), in collaboration with other PSOM departments and other schools.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include leading the department's efforts in forging alliances and strategic relationships across the university, health system, and with community partners to develop integrated and collaborative approaches leveraging the science of community-engaged research and practice.

The Division of Community Health serves as the Department's academic hub for community engaged research and practice to accelerate healthcare transformation and leading regional and national efforts to promote health equity. The Department and the leaders of Penn Medicine are committed to identifying and partnering with our community to reduce health disparities, particularly in the West Philadelphia community. The Director of the Division of Community Health will be asked to help lead these interdisciplinary efforts.
The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders in the university, health system, and community. This individual will be responsible for forging and nurturing effective, trusting partnerships with community leaders and organizations in co-creating the institution's community health programs. A track record of effective community health practice is highly desirable, including cross-sector partnerships (e.g., Department of Public Health). This position requires a demonstrated track record of diverse funding sources and scholarship and the candidate should articulate a clear vision for the future of community and population health. The ideal candidate will provide evidence of excellence in mentorship and teaching, excellent written and oral communication skills, and a willingness to engage in research in a rigorous and interdisciplinary setting across multiple health professional schools at the University.
