Job Description

Working at Penn Genetics in the Cremins Lab, the Researcher will independently design and conduct moderately complex research in the area of independently building protocols for the most cutting edge recently published imaging and spatial genomics technologies. Independently, work with the PI to outline and design protocols from the most bleeding edge published paper, including single cell genomics assays such as single nucleus methyl 3C seq, RNA-DNA SPRITE, spatial ATAC-seq, merFISH high-throughput RNA FISH imaging, or sequential Oligopaints DNA higher-order folding imaging. May also do a significant amount of molecular cloning. Perform literature searches, find published protocols, and troubleshoot existing protocols and get them established across a range of cell types and applications in the lab. Exceptional opportunity for an innovative problem solver who enjoys molecular engineering, genomics, and imaging technology development. Favorable preference will be given to individuals with skills or interest in also building computational approaches and algorithms to analyze and find patterns in the generated data.

  • Independently design and conduct moderately complex research in the area of spatial genomics, single cell genomics, and probe based imaging
  • Curate literature to identify protocols for a leading technology
  • Reduce the concept from the materials and methods section into a protocol
  • Build the protocol in the lab, benchmarking against gold standards, and generating quality control data
  • Assist in running and troubleshooting routine long-term imaging experiments with microfluidics and super resolution microscopy
  • Perform routine maintenance of microfluidics and microscopy hardware
  • Perform tissue culture on embryonic stem cells, neural progenitor cells, induced pluripotent stem cells and brain organoids in order to do experiments
  • Clone a wide range of constructs into standard AAV and lentviral vector backbones and will likely perform minipreps and maxipreps to prepare vectors for genome engineering
  • Order and fix and maintain technical equipment
  • Maintain an orderly lab notebook; records, interprets and analyzes data within prescribed methods.

Position is contingent on continued funding.


Bachelor's degree in molecular and cell biology or related field and 3 to 5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to troubleshoot and solve cellular and genome engineering challenges independently and flexibility and independence to take on new/additional technical tasks that may arise during the discovery process will be important. Detail oriented and molecular/technical skills in building working protocols from concept to high quality data. PhD applicants will be given preference. Individuals with skill and interest in also writing code in python to analyze data will be given preference.
