Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Senior IT Project Leader, the Associate Director of Educational Technologies assists in the support, development, implementation and hosting of all online courses and experiences offered through Wharton Online. The Associate Director also works closely with Wharton Online course team staff and vendors to ensure courses are delivered in a high-quality manner from a technical perspective and that the learning experiences offer the full advantage of the technical capabilities of the respective platforms while reflecting pedagogical best practices. The Associate Director collaborates with different stakeholders on new ways of delivering innovative courses, keeps current with industry developments regarding new offerings in the market, and ensures the course support resources are current.

Successful candidates will have previous experience with online education and/or MOOCs, strong attention to detail, have a high service-oriented nature and the willingness and flexibility to operate in a continually changing and growing team environment. Ability to support clients off hours is required at times. Online course platform knowledge and technical troubleshooting expertise required. Project management, vendor relations and instructional design experience required. Coding experience is helpful.

Job Description
  • Work with design/development teams and industry counterparts to ensure the successful production and execution of online courses and experiences from a technical perspective.
  • Maintain platforms and technologies, updating Wharton Online's LMS platform (currently Canvas) and other related platforms as needed. Update and improve course templates for use by course managers.
  • Has primarily responsibility for maintaining supplemental educational technologies, such as video hosting, virtual classroom-hosting and captioning technologies, as well as applications for credentialing, new assessment tools and other LTI integrations.
  • Work with technical representatives at Wharton Online corporate clients to operationalize integrations with client platforms.
  • Provide second tier technical support for Wharton Online and Wharton Executive Education course and program managers.
  • Create technical support resources, including documentation and training and best practices to support development and use of online learning platforms and technologies by Wharton Online and Executive Education teams and partners.
  • Gathers and analyzes course data to inform and improve delivery of current and future online offerings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


A Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. *1-2 years' teaching or related experience is preferred. Experience in using Canvas LMS preferred. Willingness to learn is required. *Interest and excitement in exploring and figuring out new tools and technologies is required. *Ability to work with a diverse set of individuals in a customer-facing situation required. *Flexibility in scheduling and working hours preferred in order to support online courses which run 24/7 is required.
