Job Description Summary
The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue to and complete their postsecondary education. The program publicizes the availability of financial aid and assist participant with the postsecondary application process. Talent Search also encourages persons who have not completed education programs at the secondary or postsecondary level to enter or reenter and complete postsecondary education. The goal of Talent Search is to increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and complete their postsecondary education.
Services provided by the program include:
  • Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling including advice on entry or re-entry to secondary or postsecondary programs
  • Career exploration and aptitude assessment
  • Tutorial services
  • Information on postsecondary education
  • Exposure to college campuses
  • Information on student financial assistance
  • Assistance in completing college admissions and financial aid applications
  • Assistance in preparing for college entrance exams
  • Mentoring programs
  • Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders

    Job Description

    SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Enrollment & College Preparatory Programming (ADECP) is responsible for the virtual identification, recruitment, enrollment, and college prep programming for approximately 600 low income, first-generation middle and high school students who are interested in pursuing postsecondary education. The ADECP will be responsible for developing, organizing, and conducting activities and support services that will encourage and enable students to adequately prepare for high school completion and enrolling in post-secondary institutions. The ADECP will also actively participate in recruiting student through virtual promotional activities such as personal contact with counselors, student individually and in groups; virtual visits to middle and high school community cohorts; develop multimodal digital college fairs, panel discussions, presentations and newsletters, and will be responsible for special recruiting programs requiring digital efforts.

    Candidates for this position must have the demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities to work in complex virtual team and program environments and must be able to effectively use a variety of digital applications and tools to provide program services, adhere to program timelines, communicate, and collaborate with team members and program participants. They must demonstrate competence in the use of digital tools including team platforms, publications software, e-curriculum content, web conferencing, instant messaging, data gathering, and reporting software. Specific skills essential for this staff colleague to be successful and effective in meeting their project milestones also include evidenced skill with managing social media, creating virtual content, and curating ongoing digital outreach to program participants to support the provision of best-in-class program content and services.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:

    • Coordinate all Talent Search virtual recruitment, educational, counseling, and cultural activities for students in grades 6-12 within the target schools.
    • Design and facilitate virtual workshops/information sessions for Talent Search high school students.
    • Recruit, and retain the required number of eligible participants for the TRIO Talent Search program during the funding periods for grades 6th -12th.
    • Plan and execute college prep plans.
    • Develop, maintain, and update the student's action plans on digital platforms.
    • Meet regularly, virtually, with the high school principals, counselors, and other designated staff.
    • Motivate students to achieve their full completion of mandated project activities virtually
    • Maintain up-to-date, accurate, enrollment and college information on individual students.
    • Meet with all 12th graders to review post-secondary plans, including completing FAFSA, college and trade school applications and career exploration.
    • Collaborate with target schools to deliver pre-college services that meet the critical academic needs of participants.
    • Maintain ongoing virtual communication with students to ensure the delivery of services.
    • Assist in monitoring participants' academic progress from their date of program entry through their high school graduation.
    • Provide weekly and annual reports of the use and effectiveness of service delivery.
    • Chaperone Talent Search students to and from program-related online and physical activities.
    • Keep abreast of current trends related to pre-college and collegiate pandemic and ppost-pandemic success by participating in professional organizations (e.g., state, regional, and national TRIO associations).
    • Work closely with the Director to ensure that the appropriate documentation, as required by the funding agency, is maintained in individual students' electronic and physical files.
    • Periodic evening and weekend duties are required.


    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A Master's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, or related field required.
    • 2+ years of programming experience, preferably in college access and prep programs.
    • Experience in high school and/or college admissions recruitment
    • Knowledge about the college preparatory process.
    • Experience with externally funded, federal, or state academic support programs.
    • Strong leadership, organization, interpersonal, written and presentation communication and information management skills
    • Demonstrated commitment to serving and preparing underserved, racially and culturally diverse students for academic success and post-secondary enrollment
    • Experience working with low-income, first-generation students.
    • Experience with instructional design and virtual learning environment.
    • Strong organizational, programming, motivational, and leadership skills.
    • Strong interpersonal, written, presentation and technology skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment to diversity.


    POSITION CONTINGENT ON GRANT FUNDING
