General Summary of Position:

The Department of Environmental, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a full-time Visiting Lecturer (Visiting Teaching Professor) to start in the Fall of 2022. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in coordination and instruction of courses for Environmental Science majors and service courses for other students across the University. Courses to be taught include Environmental Science, Geoscience, Atmospheric Science, and/or Sustainability, plus associated hands-on laboratories. The position includes service contributions to the Department and the University. The position is full time for one 9-month academic year, including benefits.

The Department of Environmental, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences:
The Department of Environmental, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences has 10 tenured and tenure-track faculty members, one full-time teaching faculty member, and several adjunct instructors serving nearly 150 BS students and 30 MS and PhD students. It offers BS degrees in Environmental Science (traditional and Geoscience options) and Atmospheric Science/Meteorology, and a new BA degree in Environmental Science – Sustainability option. At the graduate level, it offers a PhD program in Earth System Science and an MS in Environmental Studies with options in Atmospheric Science and Geoscience. The department has experienced substantial growth with several recent faculty hires and a 50% increase in undergraduate enrollments and over 75% increase in graduate enrollment over the last five years. The department takes a leadership role in UMass Lowell’s Climate Change Initiative and the Rist Institute for Sustainability and Energy. The Climate Change Initiative is a cross-disciplinary Research Center that brings together more than 35 faculty members from 18 academic departments committed to addressing climate change in their scholarly, instructional, and engagement work (https://www.uml.edu/research/climate-change/). The Rist Institute is the University’s center for hands-on research in sustainability, climate change, and renewable energy (https://www.uml.edu/sustainability/). Its goal is to create scalable blueprints for sustainability in communities throughout our region and across the world. Minimum Qualifications (Required):

• Earned doctorate in environmental or natural science, geoscience, atmospheric science, sustainability, or a related discipline (must have at the time of application)
• Demonstrated record of course and laboratory instruction at the university level
• Experience in teaching environmental science, geoscience, and/or atmospheric science courses
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

• Preference will be given to candidates who can provide evidence of teaching excellence such as by student and/or supervisor evaluations
