The Department of Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Instructor positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Expertise is required in the specific area of emergency surgery and surgical critical care. Applicants must have an M.D. degree. They must also be certified for general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery or foreign equivalent, or eligible for such certification.

Responsibilities may include patient care in surgical critical care and emergency surgery and supervision and instruction of residents, fellows, and medical students.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to support and expand the emergency general surgery and surgical ICU clinical programs at University of Pennsylvania Health System member hospitals including the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center and Pennsylvania Hospital. They will also participate in performance improvement activities.
