Director of Housing The University of Tennessee at Martin The Director of Housing at the University of Tennessee at Martin, under the direction of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student and Residential Life, is responsible for the overall vision, strategic planning, assessment, administration and operation of a comprehensive housing program. DUTIES: Vision and Leadership • Coordinate the availability of resources necessary for the effective delivery of services and programs. Ensure all functional areas of the Office of Housing work seamlessly to provide a quality residential experience. • Develop and monitor activities, policies, and procedures supporting the mission and purpose of the department and university. • Coordinate with Facilities and Physical Plant operations for all projects relating to planning, construction, custodial services, maintenance, and grounds. • Oversee the room selection process and occupancy management procedures. • Coordinate departmental assessment efforts. • Direct and evaluate programs and services to ensure alignment with academic initiatives, departmental objectives, and strategic plans. • Serve as the primary liaison for the Office of Housing among internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information and representing the interests of the department. • Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with the units of the Division of Student Affairs and other campus partners. • Be a visible and active participant in campus-wide sponsored activities, including weekend and evening events. • Serve on search committees for positions outside the department. • Provide service to the university through participation on committees. Supervision • Directly supervise 5 Hall Directors, 1 Apartment Manager, 1 Facilities Coordinator, 1 Custodial Supervisor, 1 Maintenance Supervisor, 5 Administrative Assistants, and 1 Marketing Intern. • Indirectly supervise up to 20 full-time staff and 60 student staff members. • Communicate staff issues or challenges to supervisor. • Coordinate staff development activities and retreats. • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, managing conduct and performance, and approving payroll and work schedules. Policies and Procedures • Annually update housing leases. • Annually update the Housing Handbook. • Annually update staff training manuals. • Oversee residence hall opening and closing operations, including breaks. • Annually review exemptions to the live-on requirement for undergraduate students. • Oversee coordination of systems and timelines dealing with assignment procedures, billing, payroll, and other procedures. Fiscal and Budget Management • Oversee a $7.5 million budget for the Office of Housing. • Exercise full authority for all departmental budgets, purchase requisitions, capital expenditures and employee payroll. • Monitor financial and occupancy reports. • Ensure that fiscal and budget polices are appropriately developed, reviewed, and followed. • Develop annual and long-range budgets. • Make recommendations regarding annual room rates, rate schedules, and long-range funding. • Plan and forecast revenue and expenses. Student Conduct and Crisis Response • Review all student incidents and determine appropriate referrals to the student conduct process. • Collaborate on cases with the Office of Student Conduct and Care, Student Health and Counseling Services, and University Police. • Assist in the case follow up for the Care Team. • Assist in coordinated response to Clery Act and Title IX incidents/complaints. • Seek proactive measures to advocate and care for on campus students. • Serve on an on-call rotation for the Crisis Response Team. • Coordinate response to all crisis situations, involving housing facilities or incidents impacting on campus students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: • Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Leadership, or other closely related field. • Five years of progressively responsible experience in university housing leadership, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. • Supervisory experience • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis, human resources and risk management as it relates to housing programs and services. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple facilities, programs, budgets and staff. • Excellent skills in conflict management techniques. • Skills in establishing and implementing customer service standards. • Ability to conduct department wide assessment to evaluate the impact of housing services on academic success and over all well-being of student. • Exceptional communication skills including the ability to write clear and concise reports and correspondence. • Interpersonal skills to work effectively and establish collaborative working relationships with persons from diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels within and outside the university. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Ph.D. in related field. • Experience in financial modeling, budget management, and strategic planning. • Experience in crisis management. • Demonstrated skills in use of technology such as RMS, Roompact, Runway, IRIS, Banner, etc. Application Process: Applicants must apply online at and attach a cover letter, resume, and references.
