Job Description Summary
The Director of Marketing Communications will lead a content strategy designed to build brand awareness, deepen engagement, and drive leads and enrollments for Wharton's 50+ on-campus and live online executive education programs. The Director will develop and oversee the production of communications and marketing content for use in Wharton Executive Education's website, digital advertising, social media, email marketing, video, print collateral, and press releases. Working closely with the Senior Director, Marketing & Digital Strategy, the successful candidate will also support the development of individual marketing plans for new programs and related communications.

Job Description
  • Strategic positioning and messaging to support Wharton Executive Education's marketing and reputational objectives for Open Enrollment and Custom programs.
  • Work collaboratively with Wharton and Penn faculty and the Program Design and Management team to develop an understanding of program content and target audience to create appropriately branded assets that achieve program enrollment goals.
  • Serve as a content strategist for new and existing web projects and objectives, including the collaboration of storyboarding and scripting for video projects with multimedia producer and/or freelance support; create, develop, and manage web content, including program pages, faculty spotlights, and participant testimonials.
  • Develop editorial content and manage writing and editing of the monthly online newsletter, Wharton@Work; support SEO strategy through the creation of additional content marketing opportunities.
  • Identify, oversee, and manage the workflow of freelancers and ensure that projects are on track to meet deadlines and budget.
  • Serve as the main media contact for the Executive Education division of the School and as the Executive Education representative on School-wide branding and communications initiatives.
  • Provides strategic guidance and/or writing support for various ad hoc communications request from the business, at the request of the Sr. Director.


QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS and 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal candidate has excellent creative writing abilities, strong editorial skills, and strategic content marketing experience. Additional qualifications include:
  • Ability to quickly develop clear, concise, and compelling content that attracts an executive audience to engage within various channels; business writing or journalism background preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience directing a variety of integrated creative projects, including branding, websites, media relations, social media, video, print, email, and digital advertising, across both creative and content elements.
  • Proven experience collaborating with creative services teams (design and content) and managing content calendars.
  • Successful experience managing resources and budgets for both internal and external relationships as well as an astute ability to work on multiple projects and manage numerous deadlines.
  • Open-minded collaborator who can listen, partner across the organization, and compromise when needed.
  • A strong ability to ask penetrating questions, detect unstated assumptions, resolve conflicts, and develop and manage the execution of creative work.
