Executive Director of Emergency Management

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is the state’s only public health, law, and human services university. Reporting directly to the Chief Business and Finance Officer and Vice President, this is a visible, key leadership position that will build Emergency Management (EM) at UMB. The institution seeks candidates with outstanding leadership skills to join a cutting edge community of professional faculty, staff, and students. The Executive Director must be deeply committed UMB’s public mission and its core values of accountability, civility, collaboration, diversity, excellence, knowledge, and leadership. As a strategic thinker with a solid record of front-line experience in his/her field, the Executive Director will develop a vision and lead the UMB community in pursuing safety, security, and preparedness.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned leader with a demonstrated collaborative, communicative style. Seeking meaningful engagement with important stakeholders within the UMB community, across the state of Maryland, and across the national EM landscape, the Executive Director will foster a framework for interoperability and elevate UMB’s EM function. The ideal candidate will have a degree in EM, public safety management, homeland security, or criminal justice. S/he will also bring first hand experience with large-scale emergencies.
