Description:
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position in Theatre History/Literature at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August, 2018.

Compensation:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications. CSU Bakersfield offers a generous benefit package (e.g., excellent health, dental, vision, and retirement benefits).

Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in Theatre or ABD. Candidates should provide evidence of:
• Record of successful directing
• Record of successful teaching at the university level.
• Ability to teach courses in Theatre History and Script Analysis.
• Ability to teach courses in Beginning Acting or Introduction to Theatre.
• Ability to teach courses in Women Playwrights, Latinx Theatre, Black/African American Theatre or Asian Theatre.
• Potential for developing a distinguished scholarly, creative, & professional record.
Additional Preferred qualifications:
• PhD completed.
• Ability to teach Playwriting.
• Commitment to working with diverse student populations.
• Potential for active and sustained participation in recruitment.
• Ability to provide collegial service and academic advising.
Responsibilities:
Teach courses in the major and General Education. Direct in our main stage season on a rotating basis. The opportunity to teach playwriting may be available to the qualified candidate. Provide collegial service and perform academic advising. Actively and effectively recruit new students to the program. Candidates who are committed to diverse student populations are especially encouraged to apply.

Department Information:
Housed in the Department of Music and Theatre at California State University, Bakersfield, the Theatre Program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre. The goal of the program is to develop the skills, craft, knowledge and imagination of its students within a liberal arts context. This broad preparation at the undergraduate level develops a foundation for any theatre specialization. Our aim is to help our students acquire the skills necessary to succeed in their future pursuits. The curriculum includes courses in performance, design/technology, dramatic literature/theatre history, theatre for youth, directing and playwriting.
