Summary of Position

The School of Nursing, within the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW) invites applications for 9 month, full-time, faculty at the rank of Assistant, Associate Professor or Full Professor. Tenure at rank for Associate and Professor ranks can be recommended to the Board of Trustees upon hire. The primary teaching responsibility will be across undergraduate and graduate nursing programs to meet school needs. In addition, all faculty positions have expectations for advising students, conducting research and scholarship, performing professional and community service and outreach, and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. The successful candidates will be expected maintain a campus presence as part of the School of Nursing faculty. Appointments begin may begin as early as October 2017 but start dates are negotiable as late as August 2018.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants for these positions should demonstrate a record consistent with experience and rank desired in teaching, involvement in professional service, and a scholarly record of research publication, presentation, and funding suitable for the rank sought. Faculty qualifications must include a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field with a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing, a current RN License in NC, or eligibility for licensure in NC expected as part of the hiring process.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates who have credentials and/or experience in informatics or health policy.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The School of Nursing (SON) has an outstanding legacy of serving the people of southeastern N.C. through education, scholarship and service. The SON is dedicated to excellence in the development of health care professionals through in-depth education, professional partnerships, applied research, regional engagement and community outreach and impact. The SON is located in McNeill Hall, a state-of-the-art facility that includes offices, classrooms, a large lecture hall, computer laboratories, student success areas and learning commons, and the Simulation Learning Center. The Simulation Learning Center uses high, medium and low fidelity human patient simulators as a teaching and learning tool for nursing education. Through the use of simulation, we strive to create a realistic environment and a powerful learning experience that promotes cognitive, affective, physical and social development of the student as well as the incorporation of inter-professional collaborative experiences for students across the degree programs in the College.

The SON offers the following degrees programs: BSN, MSN (Family Nurse Practitioner), RN BSN online program, DNP, BS in Clinical Research, MS in Clinical Research and Product Development, and Post Master Certificates in Family Nurse Practice and Nurse Education. Approximately 1,700 undergraduate and 350 graduate students are enrolled in programs within the SON. Currently, the SON has 65 full-time faculty. The SON’s online bachelor’s degree in nursing program is ranked 4th among 2017’s “Best Online B.S.N. Degrees” by the website Best Degree Programs.

College/School Information

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: School of Health and Applied Human Science, School of Nursing, and School of Social Work.
