Job Description Summary
Established in 2009, the University of Pennsylvania's Center for Health Behavior Research (CHBR) is an institution-wide collaborative effort, dedicated to conducting health behavior research, fostering advances in measurement of health behaviors, advancing the use of health behavior theory, and promoting collaboration among faculty, fellows, and students. Through theory-based research and a broad focus on measurement of health behavior, the CHBR contributes to both fundamental and applied research to help individuals, populations, and clinicians improve health behaviors and outcomes.

The purpose of this position is to serve in a leadership role for the Healthcare and Informatics Communication Lab and to provide high-level support for the Director. In this capacity, the employee will be required to function as Project Manager (oversee all tasks required to ensure that studies are conducted safely and according to protocol), a collaborator (work with his/her equivalent from collaborating universities and funding agencies) and researcher (develop protocols, examine, and report on study data). S/he will also be responsible for coordinating grant applications and interacting with funding administrators and the university Business Office, as well as supervising other members of the Lab and project teams in supporting roles.

Job Description

The purpose of this position is to serve in a leadership capacity within the Healthcare and Informatics Communication Lab, under the supervision of Dr. Kevin Johnson.

The candidate will oversee projects bridging SEAS, PSOM and Annenberg, and be directly involved with planning, funding, and initial pilot projects between the School of Medicine and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He/she will be responsible for assisting with grant preparation, staff hiring, student recruitment, pilot projects, presentations, and overall management of people and time to program milestones. He/she will facilitate communication among several research teams-initially just at the University of Pennsylvania, but eventually at other health systems nationally.

This position will develop relationships with internal and external international project partners and is expected to extend beyond existing projects over time. The position will require the candidate to work within standardized PMP project management frameworks and expects the candidate to actively work on outreach, and other activities to foster scientific collaboration and utilization of the developed resources in collaboration with our partners. The candidate will oversee abstract and manuscript processes in collaboration with the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities also include serving as a liaison between the PI and the rest of the team (including internal and external lab/project advisors), managing and monitoring operations and timelines, and working with the PI and grants manager to manage the grant budget.

A high level of independence, attention to detail, familiarity with medicine, engineering, NIH and NSF funding, agile software development, and strong communication skills are expected. Other duties as assigned. Perform these tasks with minimal supervision after initial training.

Qualifications:

Master's Degree with 3-5 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with clinical research required; experience managing multicenter research studies preferred. Previous experience drafting protocols, consents and related SOPs. Effective problem-solving abilities, communication and writing skills required. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-level tasks required. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Applicant must be able to appropriately prioritize, manage time effectively and exercise mature judgment. Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations essential. Position contingent upon funding.
