POSITION: Assistant Professor of Community Development and Engagement

STARTING DATE: January 2023 or as negotiated

RESPONSIBILITIES:

This is a nine-month, tenure-track position in the Education, Development, and Community Engagement (EDCE) program with a 65% teaching and 35% research responsibility. This position will support the strategic vision for EDCE related to graduate education, program development and program leadership. The successful candidate will:
  • Teach resident graduate and undergraduate level courses related to community development, civic engagement, community organizing, social change theories/models, and the inclusive engagement across the diversity of our urban and rural communities.
  • Have expertise in mixed methodologies of research methods and will develop and maintain an active/funded research program.
  • Maintain a high-level publishing agenda in basic and applied research related to community development, community engagement/organizing, and other related areas in response to social justice and equity related issues.
  • Directly partner with, and provide leadership for, various AESE research and program Centers (such as the Center for Economic and Community Development; Institute for Sustainable Agriculture, Food, and Environmental Sciences; and others).
  • Actively serve the department on committees and supervise/mentor masters and doctoral students' theses and dissertations.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Individuals must have a Ph.D. trained in sociology, education and/or public policy, specializing in community engagement, community, community development, social movements, community organizing, civic engagement, or related field with degree requirements complete by the application date.

The candidate should possess exceptional research and methodological skills as well as teaching experience, preferably in the areas of community development, community organizing, social change theories/models, mixed research methods, and program development. The applicant should have experience building collaborative partnerships resulting in externally funded research, public issues education, publishing findings in leading scholarly outlets, and experience working with multiple methodologies. Candidates with international experience, interests in international development, international language and intercultural skills, and administrative experience highly desired. The ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students across the university and community is required. Candidates with excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary for teaching and experience working with and advising graduate students are preferred.
