SCAD Atlanta seeks an Associate Chair to guide future illustrators in the university’s renowned illustration program.
 

The SCAD illustration department teaches students to use traditional and emerging media to illustrate concepts and characters that elevate messages, add human dimension, and tell compelling stories. In this role, you will be responsible for day-to-day administration of the illustration department, working to help students experiment and generate work in a range of media styles while enhancing the reputation of the university’s illustration program in academic and professional circles. 

 

You will develop a strategic plan for the department in consultation with the associate dean and department members that is consistent with SCAD School of Communication Arts goals; oversee the departmental budget, including its development and implementation; evaluate professors in the illustration program; teach classes annually, as assigned, work with the associate dean to provide professional development opportunities for professors; and work with the SCAD admission office to recruit talented students to the university.

 

The ideal candidate has published credentials, accolades, and industry recognition as well as extensive knowledge of illustration history and experience producing illustration in both traditional and digital media. Proven leadership skills are a must, as is the ability to collaborate with and motivate students and faculty of diverse backgrounds to think creatively and critically. Experience with curriculum development is preferred.
