Job Description Summary
  • The primary responsibility of this position will be the development, optimization and performance of genomic experiments to identify functionally important variation impacting cardiometabolic, anthropometric, and immune related traits in human populations.
  • This may include conducting single cell genetic assays of immune cells, before and after immune stimulation, in subjects from different regions of Africa
  • The research specialist may also help with optimization and performance of molecular and cellular assays to characterize the role of genetic variation on gene expression and cardio-metabolic, anthropometric, or immune-related phenotypes in vitro and in vivo.
  • The research specialist will work closely with collaborators and core facilities to optimize sample preparation, perform sample QC and perform molecular assays to prepare samples for sequencing.
  • The research specialist will also interact closely with lab members and collaborators, will assist with training students and staff, and will assist in the preparation of data for publication and reporting and with manuscript and grant writing.

    Qualifications
    • A PhD and/or MD with 5 years of Postdoctoral experience required. Expertise in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Cell Biology, Chemistry, Immunology or related subject and at least 7 years of laboratory experience are required.
    • Experience with human tissue culture and with performing complex molecular assays including single cell sequencing are preferred.
    • Familiarity with generating sequencing libraries for genomic/transcriptomic data generation, CRISP-Cas9 gene editing, and/or characterization of gene expression regulation and chromatin interactions is a bonus.
    • Strong trouble shooting skills are required
    • Strong written and oral communication and data analysis skills are required
    • ability to work as a team member is required
    • demonstrated success with management and completion of research projects including publications
