SCAD Atlanta seeks an experienced associate director to lead the SCAD Language Studio full time.


In this role, you will work with faculty on curriculum development, assessment activities, and policy and procedure requirements and implementation, including for course schedules and facility use. You will conduct class and annual evaluations for faculty, ensure mentorship and faculty development opportunities, and assist in the hiring of faculty. For the SCAD Atlanta location, you will make decisions on student academic matters, coordinate all ESL placement results, and create and implement program workshops that engage ESL and non-ESL international students. You will also coordinate with the International Students Services Office to ensure that students retain their legal status and seamlessly transition into their programs of study.


As an associate director, you will work with the director of ESL at SCAD Savannah, as well as colleagues across all SCAD locations, to ensure goals of international student services. You will teach a minimum of three classes, maximum of six, per academic year; coordinate faculty and staff for an outstanding showcase of the department and students’ work during SCAD Days and other high-profile events; and work with the Academic Support Center to ensure that ESL students receive appropriate academic support (e.g., academic tutoring, access to the writing center, etc.). Among other duties, you will also design, deliver, and assess extended learning opportunities outside of the classroom that support and maximize students’ learning and cultural integration.


The successful candidate has a strong knowledge base in ESL best practices and current instructional methodologies, especially IT tools and e-learning techniques. A significant record of publications in teaching materials and/or textbooks is preferred.



  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in ESL, EFL, TESOL, Second Language Studies, Applied Linguistics, or a related discipline
  • Minimum of eight years of professional experience in the delivery and development of ESL curriculum and instruction
  • Experience managing an ESL department or program marketed toward English language learners seeking higher education
  • Ability to be credentialed or justified to teach
