Network Systems Specialist
Responsible for overseeing the overall technical standards and practices for college Windows based servers, Active Directory systems, college networks, Single Sign-On system, and backups of all of these systems. Serves as the lead technical resource for network operating system software. Oversees all aspects of the college’s SQL server. Provides technical leadership, guidance and training. Backs up the other Network Systems Specialists in the areas of SAN/VMWare administration and maintenance.
Education and Training: Position requires an AA/AS degree in computer science or related field plus the equivalent of five years full-time related experience, OR a BA/BS degree and the equivalent of three years full-time related experience; OR the combination of education and experience that would enable performance of the full scope of the position.
Knowledge and Skills: Must be thoroughly conversant with the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of computer networking systems. Requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Requires creativity and visualization skills to assess users’ needs and develop appropriate solutions. Requires strong communication skills in order to interact with a wide range of internal and external contacts. Requires strong leadership and training skills. Requires strong team working skills. A sound understanding of community college operations, goals, policies, and objectives is desirable.
Abilities: Must be able to perform a full range of complex and technical duties in the performance of the job. Must be able to analyze and evaluate the needs of users and develop the most effective program or solution to meet those needs. Must know how to install, configure, maintain and troubleshoot equipment, systems, and programs. Must be able to develop programs and systems within the operational goals of the college and individual departments. Must be able to prioritize and delegate work. Must be able to read, interpret and apply complex technical information. Requires the ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. Must be able to communicate effectively with district wide contacts, outside vendors and technical experts. Must have the ability to implement or integrate the following technologies, equipment, systems, hardware, or software: Operating/Server Systems, Windows Server, Linux, Microsoft SQL server, Storage Area Networks, Networked attached Storage VMware, Windows Workstation, media type devices, and web application server. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
