Job Description Summary
We are seeking a full time Associate Director D/E, who will provide high-level operational and fiscal oversight and management of activities that fall under the Penn Implementation Science Center at the Leonard Davis Institute (PISCE@LDI) portfolio. This position will work closely with Dr. Rinad Beidas and her Managing Director.

Job Description

PISCE@LDI strives to advance the science of implementation; train the next generation of implementation researchers; and to transform health and behavioral health services domestically and globally by building capacity to conduct implementation research and lead an active implementation research portfolio. The Associate Director D will also work closely with the PISCE@LDI senior leadership team to achieve the center's goals to advance the science of implementation by providing high level project management and direction over an active implementation research portfolio. The Associate Director D/E position will report to the Managing Director and their duties will include (but are not limited to):
  • The Associate Director D position will provide high-level operational and technical support to the PISCE@LDI portfolio and the cardiovascular research portfolio. This will include training and mentoring teams on how to manage the successful implementation of existing and newly funded research projects, e.g. increasing implementation research capacity to research teams on how best to prepare for project implementation, operationalize and adapt research methods, collect and manage data, and appropriately report progress and achieved benchmarks. They will also support the investigative team in the preparation of and ongoing support of externally-funded grants. They will liaise with administrative personnel in the Departments of Psychiatry and Medical Ethics and Health Policy who manage all business, administrative, financial, and grant related activities to ensure our team complies with all policies and procedures set by the department, university, health system, and/or funding agencies. They will manage personnel across projects and partner with my senior staff in the recruitment, training, ongoing supervision, and retention of full time and part time staff, and they will oversee project activities to ensure compliance with institutional, local and federal requirements related to human subject research, institutional review boards, and best practices related to data safety and management.

    The Associate Director E position will do all of the above and also provide expert consultation across both portfolios on how to optimize the testing of implementation strategies to improve the uptake of evidence-based practices in real world settings. They will also lead the increasing of implementation research capacity and education at Penn. They will consult with personnel who are leading capacity building efforts and provide implementation science technical assistance to members of the PISCE@LDI community, and they will also build educational offerings in partnership with the Penn School of Medicine Masters and Certificate program (MaC). They will conduct short-term and long-term financial planning, which includes monthly review of financial reports, ongoing management of personnel effort and expenses, and regular review of future projected costs to ensure strong fiscal health across my portfolio of work.


The Associate Director D/E must have impeccable organization, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills. They must have strong leadership skills, work independently and collaboratively, and exhibit sound judgement. Experience working with research faculty, health system leaders, and community stakeholders is preferable.

Associate Director D: Bachelor's degree and 5-7 years or equivalent combination of education and experience required

Associate Director E: Master's degree and 5-7 years or equivalent combination of education and experience required .
