Job Description Summary
The Office of Risk Management & Insurance is responsible for the property and casualty operations of the University and Penn Medicine in the areas of property insurance, general and automobile liability insurance, workers' compensation, fine arts, medical, dental, and veterinary professional liability, international travel, and student athlete insurances. The office identifies and evaluates areas of potential exposure to risk and implements measures to reduce risk across the institution.

Included in these activities are the purchase of property and casualty insurance to protect the institution and its subsidiary or controlled entities against risk of financial loss, managing services with insurance brokers, carriers and claims service providers, and educating operating units of the University and Penn Medicine with respect to the scope of the insurance coverage.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Risk Management, the Senior Risk Analyst will manage the property claims function for the University and Health System. The Senior Risk Analyst will serve as primary property adjuster and will report claims, provide coverage determinations, investigate losses, document loss information, coordinate with commercial property carriers, and handle subrogation efforts. This position will determine appropriate processes and procedures pertaining to property claims, manage comprehensive schedule of locations, recommend loss mitigation strategies, and provide ad hoc claims analysis. The Senior Risk Analyst will also assist in the adjusting activities for general and auto liability claims.

The Senior Risk Analyst will be the administrator of comprehensive Risk Management Information System (RMIS). Included in these activities are software design, developing operational workflows, and providing system support to department staff.

Additionally, the Senior Risk Analyst will assist with underwriting activities, coordinate insurance renewals and assist the team with other insurance activities.

Job Description

Manage the property claims function for the University and Penn Medicine Serve as primary property adjuster who will report claims, provide coverage determinations, investigate losses, settle claims, coordinate with commercial property carrier, and handle subrogation efforts.

Assist in the evaluation and adjusting of general and auto liability claims for University and Penn Medicine.

Administer Risk Management Information System used for managing property and casualty risk/insurance lines, administering claims for both self-handled losses and via third party administrators, managing underwriting data, and values/location collections.

Manage comprehensive schedule of locations to ensure appropriate insurance coverage, determine policy and procedures surrounding property claims operations, recommend loss mitigation strategies, provide claims analysis, and assess property risk exposures.

Assist with various risk management initiatives and activities including underwriting submissions, insurance renewals, risk assessment, Fine Arts, and Environmental insurance activities.

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

A Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. ARM designation preferred.

Must have broad knowledge of insurance in higher educationand healthcare industry. Ability to work under limited supervision, multi-task, prioritize various functions, and exercise independent judgment.

  • Excellent analytical, communication, organizational skills required. Must have strong attention to detail and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, and Outlook).
  • Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, handle varied work assignments, prioritize tasks, demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills and customer service orientation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills. Demonstrated ability to be detail-oriented and accurate.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills, along with the ability to work within tight and often conflicting deadlines.
  • Must be flexible, show effective judgement, discretion and have the ability to handle confidential financial matters.
  • Work effectively in a highly matrixed and decentralized environment with the ability to navigate through ambiguity and demonstrate appreciation and support for diversity, inclusion and belonging in a constantly evolving academic/higher education environment.
