Position description
Overview

Sixth College, one of the seven undergraduate colleges at the University of California, San Diego, seeks an outstanding educator to serve as Associate Director of Digital Humanities & Co-Curricular Programming. The position will be full-time, with the appointment split between an Academic Coordinator I and Lecturer. The UC San Diego college system provides undergraduates with smaller supportive communities within the larger research university, and the Culture, Art, and Technology (CAT) curriculum provides the academic and thematic foundation for Sixth College. Further details can be found at https://sixth.ucsd.edu/cat/ .

Position Overview

The Associate Director is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Academic Programs and CAT leadership on the administration of the CAT program as well as in curriculum development in the Writing Program. We are looking for someone with experience and knowledge of teaching writing and digital humanities, who has an interest (and experience) in programming for student-centered events that foreground the college's commitment to culture, art, and technology. We are especially interested in candidates with experience foregrounding equity, diversity, and inclusion both in their teaching and their approach to community engagement and events management.

This position has three main areas of responsibility: co-curricular program development, pedagogical support (curriculum support, teaching assistant supervision), and teaching.

Curriculum Design/Support:

The Associate Director will collaborate on curriculum development in the writing program, bringing in a digital humanities lens to the writing curriculum. This includes supporting regular assessments and curriculum revisions.
This person is responsible for supervising returning teaching assistants and working as a liaison in our courses, including supporting continuing education and professionalization for returning TAs.

Co-Curricular Programming & Events:

This position is responsible for developing inclusive community programming in conversation with CAT core courses and themes, and that serves the larger Sixth student body.
This position would be responsible for obtaining extramural funding and producing our yearly CAT Conversations event in the Fall and developing other events in collaboration with college and campus units, such as Sixth Residence Life and the Craft Center.
This position would be responsible for student outreach and marketing for CAT events.

Teaching:

The Associate Director will teach 1-2 courses per year (in the title of Lecturer) in the Culture, Art, and Technology Program (this includes CAT 1-3 or CAT 125). There are also opportunities to teach CAT 124, our experiential learning/practicum course.

This position requires working closely with Sixth Students, Staff, and faculty, including Academic Advising and Student Affairs, to integrate the curricular and co-curricular aspects of College life; and for participating in various college and campus-wide events and committees.
