    Job Description

    Duties:

    The Assistant Director in the Office of New Student Orientation & Academic Initiative (NSOAI) is a communications generalist responsible for creating internal and external messaging to students, faculty, staff, families, community, and professional groups. This person also conducts research involving program assessment, coordinating focus groups, completing IRB's, analyzing data, reviewing research articles, presenting in meetings, supervising student assistants, and creating/maintaining databases. The duties for the Assistant Director in the Office of New Student Orientation & Academic Initiative (NSOAI) include:
    • Website Management: Manage existing content, create new pages, and develop information on a daily to weekly basis. Review, analyze, and modify websites (New Student Orientation & Academic Initiative , Thrive at Penn (TAP), Hub@Penn , etc.) with University staff and consultants, including documenting, designing, testing, monitoring, and maintaining to meet the needs of users and communicate priorities effectively. Manage grant submissions for academic theme year, First-Year, and Second-Year Experience programs. Facilitate website development in coordination with external vendor, Information Technology, and University Information Systems and Computing.
    • Assessment, Benchmarking, Research, & Reports: Conduct research involving program assessment, coordinating focus groups, completing IRB's, analyzing data, reviewing research articles, presenting in meetings, supervising student assistants, and creating/maintaining databases. Monitor metrics on websites, social media, newsletters, and advertising. Use data to assist in creation of monthly marketing communications reports that include web and social media analytics, public relations outreach, events, and advertising reach. Provide reports and present findings as needed.
    • Social Media: Create original content and review content proposed/drafted by team members. Manage consistency of style and brand to meet Penn guidelines. Direct relevant advertising strategies and budgets. Collaborate with other Penn groups, especially University Communications and College Houses & Academic Services, on content amplification
    • E-Newsletters & Event Calendar: Manage design, protocol, correspondence, content, frequency, distribution for e-newsletters. Coordinate regular communications to campus partners regarding programming opportunities for marketing and online calendar inclusion.
    • Public Relations & Recruitment: Liaison with various internal Penn constituents and external constituents. Coordinate tabling at events and other PR opportunities to market programs including PHINS Orientation Leader, Preceptorial Host, and PRP Group Facilitator recruitment.
    • Planning: Update and support long-term communications plans that define goals, audiences, tactics and tools and provide direction for activity in a number of marketing communications areas. Draft and update plans for specific campaigns of limited duration, with same tactics and evaluation.
    • General Projects: Support office through creation of talking points, fact sheets, PowerPoint presentations. Assist with event planning as needed. Review and update marketing collateral produced for events, ads, etc.


    Qualifications:

    Baccalaureate degree required. Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving, and writing skills required. One or two years of administrative experience in a college or university preferred.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Master's preferred. Strong background with social media, digital marketing, and online content management (WordPress) preferred. Experience with databases, spreadsheets, word-processing, Qualtrics, research methods, and IRB protocol preferred. Experience in managing student and/or part-time workers preferred.
