Job Description Summary
The Senior Designer must be an excellent communicator, a focused listener, an effective curator of information, and an outstanding creative practitioner in order to understand and translate the overall Penn Admissions brand to create marketing materials for Penn's Undergraduate Office of Admissions. They must design across varied creative platforms (print, on-line, video, environmental branding, e-mail, social media, and mixed media). They must work collaboratively with content producers, a web developer and other creative partners and admissions staff to create final work which is vibrant, differentiated, authentic, and that adheres to Penn Admission's Brand Guidelines, while also being inventive, audience-specific, and data-informed. The Senior Designer should be comfortable interfacing with vendors, agencies, printers, photographers/videographers, and other creative partners. Their creative output will serve and enhance the business goals of the admissions department, and therefore they should be comfortable presenting their ideas, receiving constructive feedback, and helping colleagues to understand which creative solutions will best help them achieve their goals. The Senior Designer will simultaneously manage multiple assignments, and must be experienced enough to understand how to prioritize among these, and how to manage colleague's expectations around deliverables and timelines.

Job Description

Duties:
  • Owning end-to-end creative process from concept to production across all marketing and communications assets while ensuring brand consistency across all deliverables.
  • Transform marketing and creative strategies into specific creative materials.
  • Manage creative production timelines for print, web, video, mixed media, and environmental branding.
  • Develop necessary training materials, guidance, and PPT templates to elevate the deliverables used in internal and external communications across the office so that they reflect the Penn Admissions brand.
  • Manage large-scale projects across the office, related to complex marketing and communications initiatives, including facilitating cross-functional team meetings using meeting-management and project-management best practices to drive timelines, communication, timely and efficient decision-making, and successful execution of Admissions core marketing, communications, and recruitment objectives.
  • Work with senior leadership to develop key presentations and reports used with internal and external stakeholders, including advisory boards and University leadership.
  • Translate elements of the Penn Admissions Brand for various audiences and occasions, understanding how to adjust and enhance existing brand guidelines to best serve the needs and perspectives of a wide range of users and stakeholders.
  • Lead and present in meetings where creative content is being ideated upon, edited, critiqued, and evaluated.
  • Present creative executions to staff at all levels - including to senior leadership


Qualifications:

3-5 years of experience in graphic design. A deep commitment to issues of access and inclusion within higher education, and an understanding that these are essential lenses through which every project and work product created by our office must be viewed. An exceptionally talented and agile creative designer who excels at ideation but also can execute at a highly professional level. Outstanding track record for partnering and drawing out the best in other creative professionals and helping colleagues across all functions understand, celebrate, and embrace creative solutions. Higher education experience preferred but not required; those coming from outside of higher ed should be prepared to both demonstrate a strong curiosity about the industry, and be comfortable teaching and generating enthusiasm for communications best practices and tactics that come from outside of higher ed. Must have a desire and passion to find new ways to engage and share Penn stories with our audiences. Deep knowledge and understanding - and interest in - design best practices across different mediums including email marketing, print, and digital communications. Ability to lead, plan, develop, and implement projects / programs that deliver on priorities and the communication skills and collaborative spirit to maintain relationships while also redirecting interest if a project is not viable or aligned with priorities.
