The Director of Advising for the Wharton Undergraduate Division is responsible for all academic advising operations serving 2,500 undergraduate students.

Job Description

The Director of Advising for the Wharton Undergraduate Division is responsible for all academic advising operations serving 2,500 undergraduate students. The Director manages all aspects of the advising process, training, budget management, data analysis, and documentation. The Director of Advising also serves in a senior management role, collaborating with Division leadership to provide comprehensive strategic leadership and vision for advising programming. The Director mentors and manages half of the advising team staff, particularly those with primary academic advising responsibilities.

  • Supervises all advising processes, policies, and experiences, including advising schedules and structures; communication to student body about resources; and training on a regular basis.
  • Coordinates with IT to develop technology that supports advising. Directs advising budget.
  • Conducts data management and analysis processes on undergraduate advising and implements initiatives accordingly.
  • Directs study abroad advising process in partnership with Senior Director of Academic Affairs and Director of Student Life.
  • Directs the advising team's summer on-boarding and outreach and works with Division partners on overall on-boarding and New Student Orientation (NSO)
  • Advises students on academic and curricular questions and issues.
  • Supports academic, psychological, and personal needs of all students as required. Serves as assigned advisor for one-half or one cohort, depending on Division's needs.
  • Leads weekly meetings and ad hoc committees to discuss divisional advising policies and procedures and to review current issues and cases.
  • Requests and assesses institutional research on the Division's student population and programs.


QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's Degree or more, and 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Master's Degree in higher education, student services or related field, and progressively responsible work in a university setting are highly preferred. Experience with academic advising and work with college population is required. Proven ability to manage a team is required. Must have proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively with others, including senior administrators, and must possess superior project management skills. Excellent oral and written communications skills are priorities, as is a commitment to helping others, tolerance for ambiguity, ability to motivate and develop staff, and sense of perspective.
