Job Description

The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority and is not a precise indicator of salaries of new hires when looking at the top end. Based on what we pay employees coming into this position our pay range is $50,000-70,000 based on education and experience above the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities will include providing image processing and deep learning based data analysis across research projects by developing image analysis pipelines (using Python and deep learning tools), documenting, and maintaining research data files, perform data processing and quality assurance, management of data needed for analysis, and diffusion MRI analysis using software packages (i.e., Trackviz, FSL etc). In addition, the data analyst will be expected to read and review related biomedical and clinical research literature, communicate results to lab members and clinical collaborators, and contribute in writing and editing of analysis and statistical methods sections of manuscripts and abstracts for presentations and publications. The data analyst will be responsible for maintenance of the lab's web page and will be required to aid in developing and testing of a diffusion toolbox based on methods developed in the lab. Due to the collaborative nature of the position, and need to interact with clinicians, the position will require at least 40% of time spent in person in the office. Due to the wide variety of projects that the lab works on, there is potential to concentrate of deep learning or analytics based on personal interests.

Experience with programming languages like Python and C++, familiarity of Unix platform, HTML/CSS, and diffusion imaging is essential, and any additional biomedical imaging or bioinformatics or deep learning experience is a plus. Background in biomedical research is expected. Excellent interpersonal and communication (written and verbal) skills are essential, as well as strong organizational and documentation skills, to manage multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines. Experience with managing large and complex datasets is strongly preferred, with the ability to import/export data into or from various formats into standard statistical software.

The successful applicant will join a vibrant collaborative research environment, will work closely with clinical investigators in cancer, traumatic brain injury and autism, biostatisticians, and computational researchers, and will gain a first-hand experience of our diffusion imaging and connectomics program. Collaborators include faculty in the departments of Radiology, Neurosurgery, Neurology and Biostatistics, Abramson Cancer Center and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, among others. Dr. Verma is the director of the DiCIPHR (Diffusion and Connectomics in Precision Healthcare Research, https://www.diciphrlab.com/ ) within the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA). Work in Dr. Verma's group focuses on developing methods for diffusion image analysis and connectomics, incorporating novel imaging biomarkers into predictive models to improve personalized clinical decision making for tumor surgery and radiation planning, as well as diagnostic and prognostic markers of autism, brain cancer and traumatic brain injury.

Position is contingent on funding.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Background in mathematics, engineering, biotechnology, statistics, biostatistics or related field. Additional experience in biomedical research, especially diffusion imaging. Experience with programming languages like Python and C++, familiarity of Unix platform is desired, deep learning packages, and HTML/CSS development. Background in biomedical research is preferred.
