The Department of Teacher Education and Foundations at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning September 2018.  The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the department of Teacher Education and Foundations including supervision of field experiences for teacher credential candidates. The Department of Teacher Education and Foundations offers a range of undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs including: minors in Education and Gender and Sexuality Studies; credentials in elementary, elementary with bi-lingual authorization, and secondary teaching well as the Reading and Literacy Specialist; and the Master of Arts in Education degree with options in Curriculum and Instruction, Holistic and Integrative Education, Reading, STEM and TESOL. 

California State University, San Bernardino (a Hispanic serving Institution) is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles.  CSUSB offers programs through the colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities

The successful candidate will be required to (a) teach courses in the multiple and secondary teaching credential and graduate programs including strands in educational foundations, pedagogical methods and human development, instructional practices for linguistically and culturally diverse learners, (b) supervise and evaluate the fieldwork activities of credential candidates; (c) advise credential and graduate students; (d) participate in curriculum development and ongoing program assessment activities; and (e) participate in scholarly activity and service.  Rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate may be required to teach courses at both the San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses as well as other locations in the region as assigned.      

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications for this position include: (1) earned doctorate in education by time of appointment ABD will be considered; and (2) minimum of three (3) years of public school teaching experience.

1. Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the graduate level
2. Expertise in curriculum and instruction in K-12 
3. Evidence of scholarly research commensurate with experience
4. Record of (or strong potential for) externally funded research
5. Expertise in K-12 credential programs and working with English Learners
6. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with a broad, diverse community
7. Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning activities, including online and blended learning, flexible teaching methods, and applied learning approaches.
