The Department of Management at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) seeks a diverse group of outstanding applicants for a tenure track position in the area of Business Communications beginning in the Fall Term 2018, contingent on funding.  Rank is open. Successful candidates will join a growing, dynamic department and be committed to teaching, scholarship and student success.  As a part of the AACSB accredited Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Adminstration (JHBC), the Management department serves more than 1,000 students in three (3) undergraduate programs and two MBA concentrations.
 
California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is located in San Bernardino, 60 miles east of Los Angeles. CSUSB (a Hispanic Serving Institution) serves approximately 20,000 students.  CSUSB offers programs through the colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  We offer 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities

Expectations for the position include teaching Business Communications and potentially related courses (e.g. Management, Organizational Behavior) at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and significant participation in program development and leadership. Preferred candidates will be expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community.  We are seeking candidates who have a passion for teaching Business Communications and a willingness to mentor and coach students. Candidates must also have a strong interest and skills that enable them to participate in building curriculum, developing innovative academic and experiential programs, taking on leadership roles within the department and developing and maintaining relationships with the local business community. It is also expected that the person filling this position will play an active role in maintaining student engagement, advisement of students in the Management concentration, and serving on department, college and university-wide committees. CSUSB is on a quarter system and a faculty teaching workload is 36 units per academic year (9 courses), with a reduced teaching load for new faculty during the first two years.

Minimum Qualifications

By the appointment date, candidates should possess an earned doctorate from an accredited institution in the area of Communication Studies, Business Communications or a closely-related field.  Ideal candidates should demonstrate prior experience, teaching and publication record in the area of Communications with a minimum of one semester as an instructor, one peer-reviewed journal article, and two years of professional (non-academic) work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:  Priority will be given to those candidates who (a) have significant prior professional or business experience in the field; (b) ability to teach additional courses beyond Communications, including organizational behavior and other closely related management courses; (c) have demonstrated teaching excellence and evidence of publication record or a promising stream of research; and (d) have a history, aptitude and desire to build academic programs.
