The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, San Bernardino seeks outstanding applicants for a tenure track position as an assistant professor of biochemistry beginning in fall 2018.  Research in all areas of biochemistry is appropriate; expertise in biomaterials, biomolecular modelling, bioinformatics or bioanalytical chemistry would complement existing research capabilities, and could lead to research collaboration and/or course development.  The successful candidate will join an intellectually stimulating and innovative academic environment that embraces diversity. The incumbent will be expected to augment our research portfolio and implement rigorous educational programs that respond to the diverse and evolving needs of learners.  This includes development of critical thinking, technology awareness, and written and verbal communication.  We are particularly interested in receiving applications from members of under-represented groups and strongly encourage women and persons of color to apply for this position.

California State University, San Bernardino (a Hispanic serving Institution) is 60 miles east from Los Angeles.  CSUSB is a comprehensive university and offers programs through the Colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.  The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry promotes a culture of teaching excellence and undergraduate research between its 13 full-time faculty members and approximately 350 majors.  

Typical Activities

Innovative and cutting-edge teaching at the undergraduate level.  Bring creative approaches in teaching general and introductory chemistry, biochemistry, and in the area of specialization (e.g. bioanalytical chemistry, biomaterials, bioinformatics, etc.).  Develop, implement and sustain an externally funded, independent research agenda involving undergraduate students.  Participate in service activities in support of the department, college, university, and/or community.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely-related field, conferred by time of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications:  Postdoctoral experience and/or teaching experience is desirable.
