Position description
The University of California San Diego, Department of Pediatrics ( https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/pediatrics ) is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body. We invite applications for a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level.

The UCSD Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology
( https://medschool.ucsd.edu/som/pediatrics/Divisions/hematology ) includes 20 faculty, 6 fellows, and 7 nurse practitioners. Over 200 new oncology patients are seen annually in the center. There are comprehensive clinics and programs for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation & Cellular Therapy, Hemophilia, Sickle Cell Disease & Hemoglobinopathies, Long Term Follow-up of Cancer Survivors, Cancer Genetics, and Neuro-Oncology. There is a well-developed Psychosocial Program, which includes psychologists, social workers, child life specialists, and parent liaisons. The Division faculty are members of the UC San Diego NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, COG, CTN, BCC, PBMTC, and PNOC, and have an Alliance with the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for conducting joint clinical research.

Rady Children's Hospital San Diego ( https://www.rchsd.org/ ) is the largest Children's Hospital in California. It is a 551-bed facility that provides comprehensive tertiary and quaternary care, and serves patients from San Diego, Imperial, and South Riverside Counties. The second floor of the 279,000-square foot acute care hospital is exclusively dedicated to Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplantation. Rady Children's Hospital San Diego is the primary teaching hospital for the UCSD Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program, the Pediatric Residency Program, and the Department of Pediatrics at the UCSD School of Medicine.

UCSD Department of Pediatrics has a well-established faculty mentoring program for career development, which includes formal training for mentors and mentees. In addition to clinical, educational, and scientific mentorship, there is also guidance for navigating the promotion process, establishing multidisciplinary research, and seeking funding opportunities.

The Department seeks candidates to be part of a vibrant community for Hematology/Oncology clinical care, teaching, research, and advocacy. As part of our ongoing pursuit of clinical innovation and scientific discovery, there will be opportunities for scholarly work; the primary focus of the role will be in clinical care and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the maintenance of a collegial and collaborative clinical, educational, teaching and academic environment. Leadership roles commensurate with the background of the candidate may be available.

The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on the University of California pay scales. Appointments may require candidates to be self-funded.

As a member of the Health Sciences Compensation Plan, the appointee should be aware that there are limitations on outside professional activities and clinical moonlighting is expressly prohibited. Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must have an MD, DO or equivalent degree and must be board certified/eligible by the American Board of Pediatrics in the subspecialty of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Candidates must also have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the California Medical Board or equivalent.

Preferred qualifications
Candidates with ten years of experience at the attending physician level are preferred. Candidates with experience in the diagnosis and treatment of solid tumors, clinical trials and clinical research, and working with a multidisciplinary team in coordinating complex care are preferred.
