Tenure-Track Position in American Politics (Behavior, APD, Law, Gender)

Claremont Graduate University’s School of Social Science, Policy and Evaluation invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track position in American Politics, focusing on Political Behavior, American Political Development, Gender in Politics, and/or Law and Politics, beginning Fall of 2018. We are particularly interested in someone at the level of an advanced Assistant Professor or beginning Associate Professor. CGU’s Department of Politics and Policy offers only graduate-level degrees: the PhD in Political Science and several MA degrees including the MA in Politics (with emphases in American and in Political Philosophy), the MA in Religion and Politics, and the MA in Public Policy.

In keeping with CGU’s graduate-only focus, applicants should hold a PhD in Political Science and should show successful experience working with doctoral students to complete their dissertations in a timely way and to assist them in publication. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester, and the successful candidate should be prepared to teach graduate-level core American courses such as American Political Behavior, Representation and Elections, American Political Development, Perspectives on Judicial Power, Women and the Political Process, etc. We expect that the successful candidate will be expert in the use of appropriate research methods such as experimental research, survey research, legal research, etc. CGU is a small university with a focus on transdisciplinarity, and therefore applicants with interests beyond one field are appreciated.

CGU is affiliated with five undergraduate colleges via the Claremont University Consortium. Joint research opportunities and teaching with the Claremont colleges may be possible.
