Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Materials for Biology and Life Sciences

Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in materials science and engineering with research focus in soft/biomaterials, to begin on or after July 1, 2018. Candidates should have an earned Ph.D. in materials science and engineering, bioengineering, or a closely-related discipline. We seek applicants who will contribute to Washington University’s growing multi-disciplinary research effort in the fields of materials for biology and life sciences as well as to our strong soft/biomaterials focus. Areas of particular interest include advanced materials for neural interfaces, immunoengineering and immunomodulation, biointegrated electronics, and bioimaging. Washington University is a highly-selective national research university with a strong tradition of cross-disciplinary endeavors.

The successful applicant will have a primary appointment in Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science (mems.wustl.edu) with the possibility of joint appointments in other departments. The faculty member will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in materials science and engineering, participate in University service, and establish a vigorous externally-funded research program. The open position is at the rank of Assistant Professor; appointment at a more senior rank will be considered for an exceptional candidate with a distinguished record of achievement in research and teaching.
