Vice President for Advancement

Susquehanna University welcomes applications and nominations for the Vice President for Advancement who will join Susquehanna University at an exciting and transformational time. The new President, Jonathan Green, started in July and there is great anticipation and expectation for what the next Susquehanna chapter holds. President Green’s vision for Susquehanna presents wonderful opportunities for the next Vice President for Advancement. In addition, the University just concluded its most successful fundraising year ever due to increased alumni giving, board support and a seasoned Advancement team known for their collaborative and team-centered approach to fundraising and engagement.

Reporting to the Vice President for Finance & Administration/Co-Chief Operating Officer with a dotted line to the President, the Vice President for Advancement provides strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the University’s development and alumni engagement efforts and serves as a member of the President’s cabinet. The Vice President will oversee a team of 27 professionals who raise $16 - $17 million annually and engage 19,000+ alumni and an additional 20,000+ donor constituents.

The Vice President will be a dynamic, donor centric leader who has successfully built philanthropic support and constituent engagement for a similarly complex organization. A commitment to liberal arts education, the ability to persuasively articulate the mission and values of the institution, as well as promote the distinctive identity and core values are crucial to success of this role. The Vice President will have the opportunity to collaborate closely with President Green and provide immediate support as he is introduced to the larger Susquehanna community, provide vision and leadership for the capital campaign, address the need for updated fundraising management software, and formulate and articulate a clear strategic vision and fundraising plan for the University. In addition, the Vice President will demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion and a strong track record of building, coaching, and valuing diverse teams of staff and volunteers. Successful candidates will have an approachable and motivational leadership style that promotes mentoring, collaboration, professional development, and innovation. They will be a natural storyteller – one who possesses excellent listening skills and outstanding oral and written communication ability.

Candidates from academic and non-academic environments are welcome; a bachelor’s degree is required and an advanced degree and/or professional certifications are preferred.
