Job Description Summary
This position supports the research and teaching responsibilities associated with the laboratory of Dr. Kelly Jordan-Sciutto. Coordinate biospecimens/biomarker data for the PMHARC CORE E.

DESCRIPTION

This position coordinates activities, assays and data management for the Penn Mental Health AIDS Research Center (PMHARC) as well as leads independent research project(s), the impact of cannabinoid use on HIV infection in the context of ART on the Central Nervous system using 2-D and 3-D human induced Pluripotent Stem Cell models.

  • This position coordinates activities, assays and data management for the Penn Mental Health AIDS Research Center; including, coordinating biospecimens/biomarker data (PMHARC CORE E); managing billing and data and core coordination for PMHARC Core E.
  • Design experiments to assess impact of cannabinoids on HIV infection and ART use using Human iPSC derived microglia, neurons and astroctyes in 2D and 3D culture.
  • Cell Biology and microscopy: Assay experimental outcomes using microscopy, immunohistochemistry and Immunofluorescent staining, cell apoptosis, differentiation, proliferation and cytotoxicity assays, luciferase assay, flow cytometry and cell sorting, CyTOF, cell transformation, protein kinase activity assay, protein extraction and purification, HPLC, FPLC, methods for production and detection of nitric oxide and peroxynitrite.
  • Perform molecular biology and biochemistry approaches including cloning, protein extraction, protein purification, immunoblotting, PCR, qPCR, RNAseq
  • Analyze data resulting from experiments, applying statistical methods.
  • Review and crucially evaluate literature associated with the research project and contribute to writing of research papers, grant proposals and progress reports.
  • Provide training and mentorship to students in the laboratory.
  • Maintain a notebook associated with research activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS
  • PhD and 2-3 years of experience or a Masters and 5-7 years' experience are required. PhD or equivalent in a field related to virology, immunology, and/or neuroscience preferred.
  • Experience with technologies associated with Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Virology and Immunologic are essential.
  • Knowledge of Neuroscience and HIV sciences preferred.

10% Read and crucially evaluate literature associated with the research project and contribute to writing of research papers, grant proposals and progress reports.
